*two weeks later*
Jacobs povAfter I realized my feelings for Kaitlyn I shoved them away. I tried to not think about it, but then of course that's all I thought about. I caught feelings for my best friend who just so happened to be dating my other best friend, who happens to be the MVP.
There was an off vibe throughout the guys today. We were still ourselves and being goofy but it still felt off. But I didn't know why.
"Hey Moose?"
"Yeah what's up man?"
"Do you feel like an off vibe today? Or is that just me?"
"No I feel it too."
"Hm weird. I'll go ask Kaitlyn what she thinks we should do. She always has good ideas."
"Good luck man, she's in a funk too."
"What?" She never was. And when she was, she never let anyone know. I caught her a few times and cracked her shell to get her out of the funk, as far as I knew I was the only one who could do that.
"Yeah, I went to go do our handshake and she barely seemed in it."
"Oh damn. Well then I'll just go talk to her."
I started to walk down the hallway to get to get to her office but soon stopped.
"I don't understand why you aren't getting this." I heard her say.
"They're nice people Kaitlyn."
She was talking with Christian.
"You didn't grow up with them. They were putting on a show like they always did."
"If you just opened your eyes,"
"I DON'T NEED TO OPEN MY EYES TO SEE THAT THEY'RE ASSHOLES CHRISTIAN."
"Whatever you need to cool down and I have to get ready. I'll see you later."
I started walking towards her office to make it seem I only just got there. Christian walked past me,
"Hey man."
"Whatever."
And thats where the weird mood was from. I stood in the door, she sat there with her hands on her forehead. I knocked and leaned against her door. She looked up.
"Hey what's up Jacob."
"Do you feel a weird mood with the guys? Or is that just me." I wasn't going to ask about what I just heard. That would've been bad.
"Oh uh yeah I feel it too."
"Hm good to know. You okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine I'm just tired."
"You sure? Cause even when you've been tired before you're this upbeat person."
"Uh."
"I don't want to force you to tell me anything but, I'll always listen if you do." I didn't want to aggravate her so I started to walk away.
"WAIT, um wait." I turned back around.
"Yeah?"
"Close the door." Her voice was soft. As I pulled up a chair she wiped her eyes. She was crying before and it broke my heart.
"So Christian met my parents after the game last night."
"Oh. How did it,"
"Better than I thought but not how I wanted it."
"Okay let's talk it out."
"He finds them as these great nice people, when they aren't. He isn't getting the fact that that's what they do. They fake it in front of you and the second you're gone they mock you and talk shit about you. They're manipulative and that's what they were doing last night. They were getting him to like them. They started being how they always are to me towards the end but he didn't get it. Literally before you walked in here we were arguing about it."
"So he wasn't seeing what you've told him about them?"
"Yeah exactly. I was gonna open up to him last night about some stuff that only a handful of people know about but after what happened I was like forget it. I'm not easy to get to or understand and I know that but I can't help it that's how I've always been because I have all these guards up from my past."
"Like the nightmares you have."
"Yeah that was part of it. Only a handful of people know about that. I want him to know so in case I have one when he's over or something he's not freaked out. But it's not easy for me to just say it."
"I can imagine it isn't."
"Not to mention once they were gone he kept egging on about how he wanted to have sex and I kept saying no and he wouldn't leave it alone. But like, after you go against everything I've said about my parents and say how great they are, hell no dude. I'm not gonna be in the mood then so leave me alone."
"Did you give in?"
"Hell no I kicked him out. I told him I was tired and wanted to go to bed because I've been working so late. Sorry I have to bust my ass to get a paycheck unlike you. I can't sit a day out and be fine like you guys I have to keep working. I have to be able to pay rent and buy food and new clothes for this job. I can't just stop or take a half day. I get paid just above a minor leaguer does, and don't even get me started on their pay and treatment,"
"Oh believe me I know." We both chuckled.
"But no it's stupid. Like if he just listened to me just once then maybe, maybe I'd open up to him about everything he doesn't know."
"God I'm sorry Kaitlyn. He's being an ass. But you know what, you have to ignore him today and go out there and absolutely kill it. You already do so it shouldn't be hard," she smiled. "But you just gotta get last night and this afternoon out of your head. Focus on the team, focus on your job even though you do enough already for it and kick some ass! I know you can and you do and it's so cool watching you do your thing everyday." Someone knocked.
"Come in."
"Hey Kaitlyn, oh hi Jacob."
"Hey Couns, you need me or something?"
"Nope all good man, I think I'm gonna have you start tomorrow though, give Yaz a day off. Not for sure though. Here's your lineup Kaitlyn, hey are you okay?"
"Oh yeah no I'm good. In a bit of a funk but, talking with Jacob has helped."
God I loved how she said my name.
"Well that's good, we need one of our biggest supporters out there."
"Always."
"See you guys later."
"You know he's right." I said once the door was closed.
"About what?"
"Being our biggest supporter."
"No."
"Yeah, you get just as excited if not more excited than the fans."
"Do you watch me during the game?"
"Sometimes yeah. It's fun watching you."
"Well it's fun watching you."
"Give me a hug before I go."
"Thank you Jacob."
"Of course, I got you, remember?"
"Yes I remember."
"Good, see you later Kait. Oh wait I should've asked first. Do you like being called Kait?"
"Not really but I don't mind if you call me that."
I smiled.
"Well cool then. See you later Kait."
I shook my head as I walked back to my locker. I hated how I caught feelings for her. She was dating one of my closest friends. How could I let this happen?
