Chapter 34: Out For More
Adeline

"Move!"

"The birthday girl has declared your motion!"

"It isn't even your birthday, Marma." One of the guys mumble.

Marma, Brianna and a few of Brianna's other friends were walking into the lunchroom to head outside, a trail of balloons and glitter following them.

"My birthday was a few weeks ago, you dumb fuck." She shrieks, pushing past me to head outside. "I don't care how you look now, we're still in charge."

So she's sixteen now? Interesting.

"Yes Marma." I smile, continuing to walk to my table.

Marma and Brianna both scoff before walking away to the other side of the property, sitting close to the boys.

The two of them start whispering to their friends, pointing behind me in the process. "Adeline is whoring around with old guys now. What a hoe."

"Hello, sweetie." A male voice behind me greets and I cringe.

Turning around, I look at Easton's uncle, leaning over the fence. "This is school property and you're trespassing, sir."

I try my best not to freak out as he pulls something from his back pocket, preparing to show me it.

"I found this on your doorstep. Addressed to Adeline Fawn. Which is you." Mr. Sam plays with the petals on the rose before tearing them off, allowing it to fall. "Day six? Let me guess, yesterday was five and the day before was four?"

Wow, he can count.

I bite my lip to keep my comment in, thinking of a response. "What are you doing with that?"

"I don't think it's right, for someone to give you flowers."

Not breaking eye contact with him, I feel someone sit down next to me and think it's probably my brother.

"Uncle, you shouldn't be here."

I was wrong.

"Easton, stay out of this." His uncle threatens, giving me a crooked smile.

Easton taps his fingers on the table and I look down at them, watching how fast he was going.

"I'm not going to say it again, uncle." Easton mutters and I finally look over at him, his ears turning red. "Leave."

"Easton thinks he's bad now? And protecting the girl he's supposed to be-"

"Shut up, uncle."

"I'll deal with you when you get home from school." Mr. Sam turns around to leave, dropping the stem in the process.

I start to stand up to pick it up before Easton pulls my shoulder down, him standing up instead.

"Is this what you wanted? Stupidness?" He bends to pick up the shredded petals, throwing them in my direction like confetti. "Here."

The flower petals hit me in clumps, a few parts landing in my hair. To my disadvantage, Easton picks up the stem as well before throwing it at me, the thorn grazing my face.

"Look at Easton, standing up for his mistress." One of his friends yell and my face heats up.

"Is she my girl or my mistress, stupid? And I don't fucking like her." Easton yells back, balling up his fist before leaning over me. "We aren't close, but I'm sorry for doing that. He's still watching."

Easton points in a random direction and I follow, looking at his uncle's eyes.

"Oh. Thank you then."

Easton's face twists up in disbelief as he walks away, joining the rest of his group at their table.

"No, but that really hurt!"

"What did?"

"He- he grabbed my arm like I'm some type of rag doll? I'm not even built like one." I stutter, looking down at my waist.

Easton laughs slightly before looking behind me. "You have six now?"

"Oh yeah." I smile, thinking about earlier. "The person sent two flowers a while ago. One for the ruined flower and another for apologies."

"Cool. And you were saying now?"

"Your uncle, is mental. Like why does he thinks it's okay to come out of nowhere and bother a fifteen year old. Isn't he like, 42? Like I didn't even remember this man before almost week ago, that should be a sign."

"You sound like Avani right now." Easton mumbles and I tense up, scratching my head.

"Why do you say that?"

"Sorry. My uncle just forced me to talk to him and he started playing recordings of her. You guys sound pretty similar."

"Oh."

"Yeah. And Adeline?" Easton points behind me and I turn, looking at my brother. "You shouldn't scream sometimes."

Kaleb steps further into the room, rolling up his sleeves. "Who did what to you now? His uncle?"

"What! No." I blow raspberries nervously, looking up at my brother.

"Easton. Open your house door, I'm coming over."

Easton gives him a thumbs up before walking out his room and I try to calm Kaleb down, none of my attempts working.

"I'll be back."

This is all very crazy. And I can't handle it.
