"Come on, Marv." I said. "Why should I, give the three of you the opportunity to be the pit crew to the Nascar race?" Marvin the shop onwer asked. "I have acual race expierence and I really don't think you want any of these under exposed mechanics, stupidly destroying a $20 million dollar car?" I asked. "Fine, you've got the job. You'll pit crew for the Red Bull teams new driver." Marvin said. "Thanks Marv." I said. "Thanks, man." Nash and Garth said. "Hey, the new racer's known as Billy the kid, on the team. But I know that you three can handle him and his enterage." Marvin said tipping his hat to us.

"I can't believe that he gave us the gig." Garth flipped over the couch. "Would you calm down." Nash said. "Look at it this way, If he likes the job, than, we could become his permanent crew." Nash followed him. I went up to my room, and market my calendar for, Race Day!!! Before I could come down from cloud nine, "Garth Strauss, if you don't bring your ninny ass out here right now!" A girl yelled from outside. "Garth!" I moaned in agony, "What the hell did you do now?" I stomped downstairs. "You've gone and done it now, Idiot." Nash said as the girl walked in the house. "Well, let me explain." Garth said. "You've got one minute." I said. "So, this is Mary Sue. She's my girlfriend."He said. "Okay, why's she carrying that shotgun?" I asked disarming her and emtying the barrells. "She though that we got back together, 'cause since you got back. So, she just blew the whole thing out of the water." Garth said. I looked at she was trying to imtimidate me. I pulled a chair infront of her, and sat down. "You won't scare me, princess. He's a good guy, don't hold him for what the town says." I said standing back up about to leave. "Oh, and if I was going to take Garth back, I'd do it right infront of you." I said. "I'm late for my shift. See you boys later." I left heading for the bar.

The town was all a buzz about the Nascar race, the Christmas festival and of course me and what wild scheme I was going to pull at both. I walked into the bar, "Looks like somebody missed me." I said to the usual late crowd. I moved seemlessly through the people to the bar. "Alright you know the drill, everybody out by 2:00 a.m." Marty said to me finshing up with the afternoon register balance. "Yeah, I got it." I said. "So, I heard that you and the Devil's sons got the pit crew gig, congrats." he asid looking over the rims of his glasses. "Thanks, Marty." I poured a couple of drinks. "I just hope that I don't lose my best bartendar, twice in a lifetime." he walked away. "Very funny Marty." I laughed.

*3:00 a.m.*

I walk back to the house, to find Nash on the front porch with his guitar. "Waiting up?" I asked. "Would you be able to sleep with Garth and a girl in the next room." he looked at me. "Definately not." I sait next to him. "So, you didn't find a girl while I was gone." I nuged him. Nash had always been a old romantic, but pretty heartless and was never very well liked, which is probably why we always got along so well. "I never told you." he said. "Told me what." I put my arm around him. "I'm in love, with this beautiful girl, I've known her for as long as I can remember." he said. "Do you have a picture of her, what's her name?" I pestered him. He put down his guitar and handed me a a locket, with a mirror inside. "Nash, how long?" I said. "Since I let you seall the chicken off Old man Richarson's farm." he said scraching the back of his neck. "Nash why didn't you tell me." I laid my head on his chest. "You would've never seen me as more than a friend, and then you started going out with Garth and then, I knew I would always be a friend." he said. "Nash." I said holding his face. "You always told me to follow my gut, and you never did! What kind of advice was that?" I joked. "You didn't think that we hung out all those times without Garth for nothing did ou." he laughed. "I even taught you everything you know about cars." he said. "I love you, Starlight, and I always will." he said.

Garth and Nash where always physically fit. Garth not so much on the mental end, but I guess that's what you get for dating the blonde quaterback, and the most popular boy who you and your childhood bestfriend turn bad. Nash on the other hand, was the souther boy, my momma had always warned me about, the boy whose only family was a bloodhound, and had a problem with authority. Too bad that I wasn't to much of a saint myself in the younger years. Which is how I met Nash, he worked on a farm during the summer, and I couldn't help but try to steal his bosses chickens. "Starlight, I've got another secret to tell you." he said. "I went up there, a couple months ago. To tell you all this but, you looked so happy, that I couldn't ruin that for you." he looked so sad. "Nash, I love you too." I said. "You're probably the only thing I loved more than Ma." he siad, before staring at me. "Did you jut say that you loved me?' he asked. I nodded. "Since when?" "Since I stole that chicken off old man Richardson's farm." I said. He smile at me, before kissing me lightly.

~~A few weeks later~~

"Come on Starlight." Nash whispered in my ear. "Ten more minutes." I rolled over. "In ten minutes, you'll be at the Nascar race." he said. "Why didn't you say that in the beginning?" I jumped up. "You look like a rabbit during hunting season. Get dressed." he kissed me before leaving. I fell back onto the bed exasperated. I got dressed as fast as I could, and raced downstairs. "Slow down, Speed Demon. Garth said. "Nash, can we take you truck?" I asked him. "Sure, but I'm driving." he said puttting on my basball cap. "I'm fine with that cowboy." I said trading his stetson for my baseball cap. "Would you too cut it out." Garth winced. "Shut up." Nash and I said simultaneously.

We got to the Race, checked in, and met most of the racers. We made it to our pit station, it was empty, the only thing there was the car. "Holy shit!" Garth said, jumping into the car. "I'm totally okay with the whole dating thing between you too now." he said. "So, who do you think the driver is?" Nash asked looking around the pit."Do you think that he'll be a pain in the ass?" Garth imputed. "Marv did say he had an enteroge, so I hope not." I said sitting on the table.

"Will you go hover around some one else?" I heard someone yell. Nash and Garth looked at me. Garth nearly died tryng to get out of the car. "Cut her some slack, she's new. remember when I was new?" I knew who each of them where. "Yeah you should up with those ugly ass shirts." they all laughed. "Here we are." Grayson said, distinctively. "The town loaned us their three best mechanics." he said. "We had the best mechanic, until I screwed it up." Scott said entering the pit. I was staring outinto the empty stands. Being back for so long my accent came back, which i was pretty glad about. "Hey, there I'm Garth. That's Nash, and the lady is Maverick." Garth introduced us. "Nash? Garth?" I heard a boy say. "Rocketeer." Garh said. "I remember when you were just a tike, trying to chase us around town." Garth laughed. Nash came over to me, "You know them, Starlight?" he asked me. "Yeah. the muscle in the back is Carr and Fonz, the girl is Marcy. the blonde is Jaz, with Haley the front of the pack is our driver, Scott, Grayson to his left, on on his right, Becky." I said. "You'll be alright, Starlight. I've got you." he said pressing his forehead to mine. "Thanks, cowboy." I said.

I stepped toward the group, "I'll need you to take a test drive so we can make sure that everything works right, so we can fix it before the race starts." I said looking at the diagnostic sheet. "Mavy, I'm sorry about everything that happened between us." Scott said to me. "Garth, quit playing and get to work, stop playing around." I said. "Nash, darling could you take the vehicle around the track once or twice, just so we can see if everything runs right." I said. "I'm on it Starlight." Nash climbed into the car and started the engine. "Do you hear that?" he yelled. "Yeah, turn it off." I said. "Come and help me find it." I popped the hood. "Shit." I said. "It's the housing?" Nash asked. "I don't think so, but this is going to take a while." I said. "Garth, get over here." Nash instructed. The three of us realized that saying it was the engine would be the last resort. "Fire it up Garth." I said. "Okay so you we're right, the fuel was heavy." Nash atmitted. "What I get?" I asked him. "Alright, come here." Nash kissed me, hard. I really wasn't expecting that, but it was good. Nash let me go, and I noticed that Scott's jaw was clenched, just before he stormed out of the room. "What's with him?" Nash asked me.
