I finished strapping Zoey into her seat when she glared behind me. "Really? Leave her alone!"
I glanced back and smoothed her hair. "I'm not taking your sister away. I promise."
She crossed her arms. "You're lying."
Ezekiel sighed and I pulled her face to me. "I'm not going anywhere, he just wants to say bye."
She narrowed her eyes. "Then he can say bye here."
I felt his amusement. "She understands sign very well."
My mother came up behind him. "She could sign before she could talk."
Viorel looked him over. "It is awfully early to be awake."
He smiled politely. "Just wanted to say bye."
He looked at me curiously. "This is the one that followed you."
I closed Zoey's door. "Yes."
He looked between us curiously. "Interesting..."
I rolled my eyes. "It's really not." Zoey knocked on her window, scowling. "Stop it, Brat." I saw her huff as she crossed her arms.
Chloé smile at him. "It was a pleasure to see you again. I hope your parents are well."
He nodded. "Traveling about, but yes doing good."
"That's wonderful. Well we'll give you two a moment."
I crossed my arms. "Unnecessary. I'm sure you'll make it a point to see me around."
He smiled. "Most likely. Talk to you later?"
I shrugged. "We'll see."
He chuckled and stepped forward to stroke my face. "I hope so."
I turned it away from his touch. "I will kill you if she starts again."
He smiled. "She was talking to your mom."
I narrowed my eyes and turned on my heel. "Good." As I slid the seat Viorel eyed me in the rear view. "Don't."
He tilted his head. "Just perplexing..."
I ignored him and looked out of the window, feeling as his sadness faded the further we got, leaving an emptiness inside me. My phone vibrated.
AAF: I don't like this feeling...
I closed my eyes, silently agreeing. I know...
AAF: Will you go out with me this weekend?
I glanced at Zoey. I keep my sister on nights and weekends during the Season so they can do whatever.
It took him a moment to respond. Then... be my date for the BlueCrest Ball?
I inwardly grimaced. That sounds absolutely horrible.
AAF: It is... but maybe I can avoid all of the desperate girls and you get to play in the garden.
I'll think about it.
AAF: You'll be my heroine if you agree.
So fucking dramatic.
AAF: Is it working?
Not sure yet.
AAF: Caleb will be there with his mate.
I smiled. That will get me in the building... not a date.
AAF: Well... I would prefer that you to be my date, but I can settle for your radiant presence.
