Again, her logic left me questioning everything I knew.  The fact that she didn't sit at the head of her pack, but with them?  It baffled me, but it made sense.

There is no Alpha if there is no pack.  A wolf is a wolf, no matter their caliber.

I get that it just... I never thought to see it that way.

Alastair chuckled.  Now, you do.

I sighed it gave me a lot to think about as I watched my mate observe them.  She barely spoke, which was her forte.  They didn't expect her to, they just understood it.  I found it interesting since my pack made every effort to keep me talking, if not about patrols, then some other pack business.

No, this was different.  They respected her as a person, her quiet ways and watchful eye.  They felt safe and didn't need her constant reassurance of border security or patrols.  They knew she would give her life for theirs and they would do they same for hers in return.  Words weren't needed, it was who they were, who they would always be.

Every now and then, I felt the pain of what was to come.  Leaving her, leaving this to return to my pack.  A pack that I feared would never truly accept her, while her pack didn't hesitate to accept me.  I felt it, they respected our bond and wanted what was best for her.  The watchful glances thrown our way spoke to that much.

I didn't know what they knew of me or my Beta, but they were always kind. It made me wonder what she said to them in the meeting or even before we came.  What's wrong?

I blinked at her sudden intrusion.  They just...

She thought for a moment.  They know you and William mean no harm... it is your pack they are concerned about.  This again, I fought my frown.  Relax, enjoy this, your pack entertains me and nothing more for now.  They know this... they know they are no true threat to me.

I looked over at her, she was confident.  The trea-

Means nothing to me to be honest.  Insurance for their sakes and a little peace of mind.  You and any of yours are safe here, we do not expect the same in return.

She smirked as I took offense to that.  You couldn't possibly think you could take my whole pack.

She met my gaze, eyes bright.  The very thought of them attempting excited her.  No, I don't think, I know.

I frowned.  Violet...

She sighed.  Please understand me when I say this.  Do I want to slaughter your pack, no, that would pointless thus bring me little joy.  However, it could...

I bit my lip, afraid to ask, but I had to know.  Why?

Her gaze swept over her pack.  Their attitude and actions towards me hurt you.  I may find it amusing, but how it impacts you... I don't.  However, so long as you tolerate it what can I say? Now, let them even think to physically harm Zoey, you, or any of mine again... they will no longer be an issue.  If that time ever comes it is you who will need to decide where you stand.

I followed her gaze, knowing this was true for any in her pack as well.  She proved as much with Viorel.  Any threat to their safety... to my safety, would not be tolerated.  Is that what you told them?

She smiled softly.  Never had to.  They know their Alpha and have been with me since we left your territory.  We lived, fought, survived, and thrived together as a pack and will continue to do so.  We respect each other and want what's best for all of us.  No, we don't always agree, but... we are a family.  And anyone one of us would kill and die for our family.
