If I ever wanted to know what an angel of death looked like, I only had to find my mate.  I was overjoyed, she told them we were mates.  As I always thought there was no flourish, no giggling, only the smallest of smiles as she stated a fact.

The look on everyone's faces was priceless, I wanted to boast, but she of course put an end to that.  She held my hand all the way to the field.  "You feel more at peace with this."

I looked down at her, she held that same air of power and certainty, I still worried, what if... I shook the thought.  "Not like I have a choice."

The corners of her mouth turned up.  "This is true.  I do hope they'll make it worth my while."

Aurora was ahead of us with the spectators, who kept sending glances back at us.  They were none to pleased with being fooled, little did they know this was a mercy, with invaders waiting at her borders for the signal, she could have very well killed them all where they sat.  "What if they all..."

She turned her face into my arm.  "It will be hopeless for them, Love.  You have to trust me."

My heart fluttered, I loved when she called me that.  "I'm trying... Alastair is strangely okay with this."

She chuckled.  "I'm sure he's fine with any violence and chaos we cause so long as he is not in our crosshairs."

I pursed my lips.  "This isn't the first time when you shifted, with the rogue... he just enjoyed the show.  Almost scared he'd get the tail end of your anger if he bothered."

We avoid that when we can...

She sighed.  "I can't say one way or the other about back then, but Amethyst is just as ruthless as I.  I can see why he erred in the side of caution."

We came to the field and she gracefully slid unto a boulder on the opposite side of those who were to watch.  "Where's your pack?"

She looked off into the distance.  "Doing whatever they normally do for the most part."

I looked at her curiously.  "They don't want to watch?"

She turned her gaze to the night sky.  "For what?  I'll take care of business as I always do.  Nothing really changes for us except for more peace and... the possibility of actual bloodshed later."

The way her lips curled at that last part sent a chill down my spine.  Yes, she was an angel of the darkest caliber and I couldn't help, but love her more.  "Deny, threaten, follow through."

She nodded.  "That's the way it goes."

I was so caught up in gazing at her that I was surprised when Zoey was there.  She was sure her sister wouldn't have any problems, it brought me a small comfort.  I frowned as Violet took off her shirt until I saw the tank top and that her mark was on full display.

So, this is what she means when she said she made no effort to hide it.

You haven't figured that much out yet?  She doesn't care that people know, she just doesn't flaunt it like some child.

Thanks for the support there.

Alastair laughed.  They've always found things like that beneath them.  Don't take it to heart.

And us?

A loving softness came over him.  We love them, what difference does it make if they are even marked or not.  It just makes us feel better.

I smiled as she produced 6 knives from somewhere.  Okay, I really wanna know where they keep those.

No, you really don't.
