"So, you really think she will be okay with this?"
Xavier smirked. "Nope, but she'll do it."
I began to get wary the further we got away from our packs. "This feels like a se-"
For the third time this week the air was stolen from my lungs. "It is..." Xavier released me and came to stand over me pulling me up by my hair. "My sister, I have no doubts about Ezekiel, it's you who doesn't know where you stand and making this announcement will cause her a lot of trouble if it goes poorly."
I opened mouth to speak as my throat constricted. "I don't care about what you have to say."
I kept my eyes pinned to his crystal clear blue ones. He would he no problems killing me here and now if it meant his sister would be safe. "This is your last chance. You can pick up the phone, ease her anxiety, and call this whole thing off."
I gasped for air when my windpipe was free. "No. I'm doing this, they have to respect the mating bond."
He scoffed. "Why? Because you say so?"
I refused to look away from him as I stood. "There are punishments f-"
He chuckled. "I'm well aware of them, but will you actually implement them? Brenda and Alicia are prime examples of your poor follow through. They came to your tent with next to nothing on, if I recall correctly. Makes me wonder just how familiar you are with them."
I clenched my jaw. "I've never done anything with Alicia, kissed Brenda when I was drunk. Nothing more."
He shrugged. "I don't care about that. What I do care about is that they disrespect my sister... my Alpha in such a way and are still among us. I do prefer execution, but you're soft, exile would have sufficed."
"You're right, the more time I spend among you the more I realize my shortcomings, but after the announcement they have no excuse."
He rolled his eyes, finally breaking our stare off, if only briefly. "Next time may be too late. Our pack showed restraint since they are not ours, but they've been warned plenty I assure you. Wonder why they've kept their distance since then? It's because we made ourselves very clear and reminding us if the treaty did nothing to sway us."
He stepped closer lowering his voice. "We told them that if they made another advance in our presence... they'd see early graves. Violet is amused by them, but disrespecting our Alpha... we do not find entertaining at all. Wonder what will happen when you return home and we are not watching out for her?"
I stood tall. "They will be handled accordingly. I'm doing this, for her, for us."
He looked towards the camp. "I would congratulate you, but I believe in actions not words. We'll see how far this goes. She really did leave by the way."
I tried to sense her only to come up short. "I'll find her."
He chuckled as he put his phone to his ear. "That won't get far." He smiled. "So... may have done a thing." He kept his eyes trained on me as he spoke basically inviting his entire pack into my territory, mischief written all over his face.
He laughed. "She hung up and is pissed. This will be fun if nothing else."
I started to run towards her house. "I just need to talk to her."
He was still laughing. "Good luck with that!"
My heart sank when I was met with a barrier when I got there. "Violet!" I knew it was no use, she sensed me when I got close and into her domain. "Please! Just talk to me!"
