I grabbed Zoey under her shoulders and dragged her deeper into the water. She squealed. "Help me!"
I chuckled. "I'll never let you drown, Ladybug."
She playfully grabbed for Ezekiel. "She's gonna feed me to the sharks."
He reached for her, grabbing her hands. "I've got you."
She giggled as my hands slipped, but I grabbed her around the waist and held her tight. "Oh no you don't..." We didn't pull hard as not to hurt her and she giggled and squealed for rescue. It attracted some people's attention and I felt as someone was wading our way.
Ezekiel frowned when he saw them coming and looked at me to stop before he let go. "Can we help you?"
I looked back at a dazzling boy around our age and he flashed a smile at me. "Just saw these lovely ladies in distress and wanted to see if I could help. Zoey frowned at him. "We're playing, go away."
He blinked at her rudeness. "I'm sorry, I di-"
She looked at Ezekiel a mischievous grin on her face. "Daddy... make him leave me and Mommy alone."
Surprise flashed in his eyes as I put my head in her hair to hide my smile, damn I loved this girl. I felt his heart swell as well as his pride. "I'm sure he gets the point, Princess."
The guy coughed. "Your... wait, they can't be..."
Ezekiel came over to us and I playful kissed his cheek. "Please leave us be, just enjoying the beach."
He looked us over carefully. "So she's yo-"
I smiled sweetly as I pinned him as one of our kind. "Mate, please be on your way, you are upsetting the child."
He gaped, blinking until his eyes fell on Ezekiel's arm. "I see... sorry to bother you."
As he left I tickled Zoey. "Sneaky brat..."
She giggled. "He was messing up our fun. ZeeZee, seashells!"
His smile was radiant. "Anything for you. I like your quick thinking."
She smirked. "I look like ViVi and you loves her. It keeps the bad guys away."
He blinked at her. "Afraid they'll steal her away."
She narrowed her eyes. "No one will take her away from us."
I pursed my lips. "Do I not get a say in any of this?"
They both glanced at me before smiling. "Nope."
I sighed resigned to my fate. "I'll just run then."
Ezekiel grabbed my waist and took us deeper. "I'll just chase you as always."
Once we got out of the water we found shells for Zoey's collection and she beamed. "This will be enough!"
Ezekiel looked at her curiously. "For..."
She waved her finger at him. "I not tell you."
He gaped. "But then how will I see it?"
Her lips tilted upward. "When you come to our territory."
Surprise flashed across his features. "Your borders are closed, Princess."
She shrugged. "For now, it won't always be that way."
She set to looking at each one, a gleam in her eyes. "So... when will it change." She glanced at him and went back to looking at her shells, so he looked at me, watching them. "Care to explain?"
