"May I speak to you for a moment?"
I smiled up at the Warden. "Of course."
Ezekiel reluctantly released me and we stepped into a more private room. "Seems you've earned a momentary peace for your pack. I doubt any of them would dare attack now."
I nodded. "That was the goal. You stopped your son from fighting, but the same goes for you and yours regardless of who you are."
He searched my face, not regretting his decision. "I know a losing battle when I see one, you even had every invader at the border taken care of with no problems at all."
I looked toward the door. "What is it you wanted to speak about?"
He thought for a moment. "You brought these wolves here for a purpose, knelt until those you defeated were taken care of is needed, then saw to their wounds and dined with them after they clearly tried to outdo you, why?"
I tilted my head. "My point was proven."
He shook his head. "I can see you're confident, but... you don't seem like you want to make enemies."
I thought a moment. "They were already my enemies, I just wanted to establish an understanding. I'm not a tyrant despite the rumors. When my goal was attained then any thing further is rubbing salt in the wound. I don't believe in such things."
He nodded, thinking. "I would like for you to join the council... your mate as well."
I frowned. "What council?"
He hesitated. "You don't know about the were-council?" I held his gaze. "They are the governing body of this region."
I pursed my lips as I asked Ezekiel to come. He strode in and looked between us before coming to my side. "He wants us to join a council."
His eyes widened, not with delight. "Why?"
The Warden had a curious look in his eye. "How did you know to come here?"
I could feel Ezekiel's apprehension. "I'm sorry Regis... I think this is something we need to discuss alone."
I didn't miss as his eyes flashed hungrily. "Of course, I'll leave my card."
We all stepped out and Derek was waiting. He looked at his father and smiled. "They didn't accept?"
That earned him a frown. "They didn't say no either. Get your ego in check, you could learn something from them."
That only made me more curious. "I do hope you all have a lovely night and safe drive home."
They both looked at me surprised. "Are you telling us to leave?"
I looked at where my twin was talking to a girl. "Our borders close at noon tomorrow, everyone is free to stay until then."
Derek scowled. "Why open them for only 24 hours?"
Ezekiel pulled me closer and I gave him a curious look. "Her purpose was served. Now, they focus on other things, I ask that you respect her wishes."
He looked between us. "Are those marks even real? Neither of you feel like you have them, hell it doesn't even look like a mating mark, more like a tattoo."
I put my hand on Ezekiel's chest. "If you continue to antagonize him, I'll let him beat your ass on principle alone. Please, we need to close the pack house for the evening."
Derek eyed me suspiciously as I gestured toward the door. "You think he ca-"
I met his gaze. "Ask your wolf... he cowered at just his whisper just like everyone else."
