Told you so...
Shut up.
Alastair chuckled. I love them.
I frowned, trying to ignore him and keep up with Violet. She was fast and even with half of our running done, she wasn't out of breath or sweating. We lapped her pack a few dozen times aside from her council who had no trouble keeping up and my pack was at least 20 behind hers.
So... she is going this pace for your sake and you are already tired.
I clenched my jaw. How did she manage it? Alastair, leave him alone, it is day one. Ezekiel, control your breathing and movements, it will get easier. It comes with training and that's why you all are here.
When we finally finished running she didn't let me catch my breath. "Hit the ground."
She didn't hesitate as she started, again I struggled to keep up. "Ho-"
"You waste breath and energy by talking. Ask when we finish."
I had 37 push-ups left when she started her sit ups and were done with those before I even did 10. Her brother came over and they began to spar until I finished. He was gone before I nearly flopped on the ground. "Don't..."
I looked at her and she held hand out to me as she stood. "You don't even look tired."
She smirked. "That's half the job." She looked at where her pack was finishing and fell into formation. Her council, who were sparring ceased and began to give them further instruction as we waited for mine. "You are a leader, Ezekiel... your council should train harder than your pack and you even harder than them."
I pursed my lips. "Why?"
She sighed. "Remember my pack killed more than 5000?" I nodded. "How many did I kill?"
I watched as they all dropped for push-ups. "The same."
She nodded. "A pack is as strong as their Alpha..."
I finally understood what she was saying. "And an Alpha as strong as their pack."
She smirked and motioned for me to follow her to some bars. "We are all connected, they can draw energy from me and I from them. You are not there yet, but even if you are the strongest... what difference does that make if your pack is weak and vice versa. 100 pull ups, then, proper introductions are in order."
A realization hit me as we started, we weren't just here to strengthen my pack. I was here so she could show me how to be a better leader. She has been testing me since I arrived, she wanted me to choose to take care of my pack, rather than being here with her because that's where I was needed. She didn't stop until I finished though she completed her set 20 pull-ups ago.
Focus, discipline, respect... she gave that to her pack and they gave it in return. I had been a fool, but I would work to be better and hopefully my pack would follow. And finally... we're getting somewhere.

Everyone was breathless as we completed the laps, but fell into formation and went into whatever the others had for them to do as they waited. I let them breathe as William completed his and brought those he fetched in the mean time. Once he was finished I addressed everyone again. "My name is Violet, for those of you who don't know."
I pointed my knife to each of the people behind. "My Beta Xavier, Gamma Aurora, others of my council Toni and Ryan. You may recognize these faces you may not. That is not my concern, but what I can tell you is that these next few weeks of training will be hell, especially if you don't get your acts together."
