"So..."
I looked at her curiously as she still sat, legs crossed on the bed. "What?"
She gestured to her bag. "I have no more swim wear."
I blinked. "Didn't yo-" She glowered at me. "Oh yeah... let's go get something then."
She smirked. "Don't think that's a good idea."
I frowned. "Why not?"
She had a mischievous glint in her eyes as she hopped up. "One way to find out."
I laced my fingers through hers as we walked, mind everywhere. "What was that, Violet?"
She sighed. "Was wondering when you ask and to be honest we don't know, it just kinda happened one day."
He nodded. "When I woke up... the room was hot, Xavier came an-"
She gave me a sad look. "Not yet... you need to process what you know first or it'll be all screwed up."
I frowned. "So, I still know nothing."
She thought for a moment. "Sometimes... you have to let it sink in before you ask the right questions."
"William... he believes in the same thing you guys do." She stayed silent waiting for my question. "He gave me what he knew about it, like killing is a sacred act."
She nodded. "It is."
"Why?"
Her eyes pinned themselves to a lone cloud above. "She created us, every living thing was brought into existence by something, it has value. Taking a life..." She sighed. "It takes something from you of it's done carelessly."
I frowned. "You've killed hundreds."
"Yes."
"It doesn't make sense Violet."
She was trying to put her words together. "You going to kill Brenda, yes?" I nodded. "Over what?"
"I thought she ruined the ball."
"But... you could fix that."
"Yeah, we did."
"Could you bring her back if you killed her?"
I paused. "No..."
She nodded. "Every life I've taken, threatened me or the life of someone I loved. If they would have succeeded, I could never have that life back, same as if I got to them first, they can't have theirs back."
"Okay that makes sense."
"So, we were created by a higher being, it happens that everyone I've killed were wolves, same creator. Every life I've taken was an offering to her. What she does with that life is up to her, she can remake it, reincarnate it, whatever she wants, it's hers."
"I'm lost again."
She pursed her lips, understanding. "Then we stay at square one. Think of scales... for every life I take I have to weigh it against why I'm taking it, I have to determine it's value. A life for a life usually balances out."
"Using that logic, people have the right to kill you."
I nodded. "That's true, but before I take any life I get approval first. You felt the air with Nelson and his group, the shift?" He nodded. "We asked permission to kill them and she answered."
"That I can see."
"It's good that you stopped me yesterday. I didn't ask if I could take Viorel's life, it is still not mine to take. Still none to happy that he is alive, but she has to approve the kill first."
