I pulled Ezekiel to the bed and sat across from him. "Violet... I'm not understanding."
I nodded. "Probably not. Tell me, what do you know of our beginning, werewolves."
He furrowed his brow. "We were born this way."
I shook my head. "False."
He pursed his lips. "Can you just tell me?"
I thought for a moment. "Lay down." He looked confused as I moved to the head of the bed. "Just do it."
He did, placing his head in my lap and I began to stroke his face. "I do-"
"I'm not putting you to sleep, per se. I just need your mind clear... and for you to let what you see happen, if you interfere it won't finish." The questions in his eyes were evident. "I need you to trust me, Ezekiel."
He took a breath, relaxing and closing his eyes. "Just don't kill me."
I chuckled. "I won't." I felt his mind slow and pushed him to the place were he was between being asleep and awake. I closed my eyes and focused.

I was kneeling before an elegant woman, skin pale hair dark as night that flowed around her in a nonexistent breeze. "So, you've decided."
I nodded. "It will save them... it will save us all."
She frowned, her black eyes gleaming. I knew them well, a bottomless abyss with only small pinpoints of light within. "Becoming one with a beast? Could spell for disaster."
I smiled softly. "Not if we are strong enough, My Lady. Not if our humanity remains."
She considered me carefully. "Not everyone is capable of such a feat. The desires of animals can overpower that of their human part."
I thought for a moment. "If just one can control it? Not give in to such desires?"
She turned to look over the railing behind her. "Such pitiful things humans are."
I stood and joined her. "But we are not, My Lady. How is our power any different than controlling that of a beast?"
She watched as the wars raged below. "So much death... even I cannot delight in it."
I slow smile spread across my face. "I find it beautiful if nothing else. A cleansing if you will, but they are winning, even with our own strength we are few and their numbers increase as the dead multiply."
Her heart broke at the sight of it. "Your bloodlust has always been insatiable. What have I done?... If they succeed. "
I side eyed her. "If I may?" She nodded, unable to tear her eyes from the carnage below. "You wished for children of the night, which is what you have, but they lacked humanity. They care nothing for the lives they claim."
Her head fell and I continued. "What I'm asking is that you create another kind of night child. With our humanity intact, powers in check, but mostly so there is a countermeasure for your first creation. We will not exterminate them, My Lady, this much I can promise for as long as we are able, but this..."
I gestured to the view below. "Even my bloodlust cannot compare to this. Most of the elements cannot not touch them, weapons do nothing to them, they are as ageless as they are beautiful. We need a balance or nothing will exist. Once they have depleted their stock, they too will fade."
I watched her battle within herself as black tears crawled down her cheeks. "All will be for not..."
I looked around us, stars fading as fast as those being slaughtered below. "It doesn't have to be. My clan is strong. Our works equally so, a trade is what I ask."
