Ch 3: An Invitation from Rhodes Island

Lin Ye is surprised by Shining's boldness.

Perhaps her feelings can be attributed to the differences in body types. Just like how some people's limbs are cold in all four seasons, his hands and feet are always warm. He doesn't know why or whether this is the reason that makes animals love him. Nevertheless, this is his trait.

"If I ask you how you did it, will you answer me?" she lets go of his hand slowly. She seems quite conflicted when she is doing it.

"What?" Lin Ye still feels a bit dazed by what just happened.

"You pulled me back from the loss of reason. Logically speaking, only originium and sedatives can do this."

"I guess this is my talent," he smiles, "I am a professional."

"Really?" She looks quite surprised, "Are you a neurologist?"

"Ugh, nope."

"Biologist?"

"Slightly different..."

"And that is?"

"If I have to say... I am a physician."

Shining feels more surprised now.

"It should be obvious," He points at his white coat and chuckles.

Shining smiles at his remark, "It seems that we are colleagues then."

"Really? Are you a physician too?" This time, Lin Ye is surprised.

"I am a doctor from Rhodes.... some department."

So she is really from Rhodes Island.

Lin Ye suddenly feels relieved at her answer. It has been two years, and now, he is officially introduced to the game world. Otherwise, he would have to question whether he was transmigrated to some other world instead.

However, he still has some doubts about her profession, "Are you really a doctor?"

"Yes. Do I not look like it?"

"What about you?" She shifts the focus to him. It seems that she is very curious about Lin Ye.

It was the certificate his pet hospital rewarded him for his performance. Shining sees the name.

" "I Love My Pet" ?" She walks to the bedside table and looks at the certificate, "Is this where you work? I have never heard about it, but, since it was able to cultivate you, it has to be an impressive organization. It seems I am too ignorant."

Lin Ye can't help but facepalm at her remarks.

No matter how wise you are, you wouldn't know some random pet hospital in Chernobog.

Also, what kind of doctor would live in this place? You really overestimated me.

Lin Ye stays quiet, but it only deepens the misunderstanding. At this point, he doesn't know what to say to her anymore. If he knew this would happen, he should have been honest with her at the beginning. She is too sincere.

Just as he struggles with coming up a response, Shining sees a red banner underneath the certificate.

"This is?" Shining pulls out the banner. Suddenly, her expression becomes strange.

There are several large letters in gold on the banner.

"Thank you, Doctor Lin, for saving my dog's life!"

She turns her head and looks at Lin Ye.

He scratches his head helplessly before saying, "I told you. I am a professional.". Needless to say, he was quite embarrassed to find out.

It took Lin Ye a while to convince Shining that he really is a vet.

"I treat pets, not beasts," Lin Ye tries to correct her, "There is a difference."

"I had no idea." Shining doesn't know how to describe her feelings right now.

The person who saved her from losing herself was not a wise medical doctor or a psychologist with great insight into the human psyche, but instead... a vet? When she thinks about how a vet saved her, there's that strange feeling in her heart.

Still, she quickly collects herself and sets those thoughts aside.

"So, you are saying you didn't use any medication or rely on originium?"

Lin Ye smiles bitterly, "It just makes angry cats and dogs calm down. Like an innate talent."

"But we are not cats or dogs," she quietly says, but she also feels that there is not that much of a difference. Since his method of treating dogs and cats worked on her, does that mean she is similar to those pets?

"Interesting," she nods, "What can you accomplish?"

"Hmm?"

"I told you before. I am not infected, but because of my contacts with the Infected and originium, I couldn't control myself," Shining points at her head before continuing, "The real Infected faces a worse fate. Their symptoms are way worse than mine, so can you do the same to them?"

Lin Ye realizes that this is the main point of their discussion. He waited two years for this.

The opportunity to finally be part of the game.

It should be exciting, but he doesn't show his emotions. He pretends to be careless and says, "Probably yes."

"Since that's the case," Shining takes a step back and sincerely says, "Mr. Lin. I represent Rhodes Island, and formally invite you to join us."
