"Lungmen people are always like this." Dr Kal'tsit crosses her legs while leaning back on her chair. She rubs her forehead to show how irritated she is,
"They are too aggressive, even when they are wrong. Chen is a good example. So, we can't always give in to their demands and we must make them understand Rhodes Island is their equal not their subordinate."
"But Lungmen is way bigger than Rhodes Island." Rangers says, "And as you said, Chen's personality is quite domineering."
"That's why there is more of the need to make them understand. They only gave us two days for this kind of task." Dr Kal'tsit sounds quite dissatisfied,
"They really think we are that easy to bend for their demands."
Lungmen's people are not in the lab right now.
When Dr Kal'tsit suggested Lin Yie to treat Chen's insomnia, Chen stopped asking Rhodes Island's operators to follow her. She just left with her men, but she looked quite cold or maybe unhappy when she left. When Chen left, Dr Kal'tsit stopped her act and rested on her chair.
All the operators are surrounding Dr Kal'tsit, but none of them is sitting. Even Durin is leaning on Noir Corne while she naps.
Lin Yie gained a better understanding of Dr Kal'tsit's status in Rhodes Island. No wonder this cat girl became a top executive in Rhodes Island. She drove Chen, someone that shown to be difficult to fend of out with just a few words.
Dr Kal'tsit has been paying attention to Lin Yie. Now that Chen is gone, she can talk to him.
"Dr Lin?" Dr Kal'tsit stands up and reaches her hand out, "First time meeting you. I am Kal'tsit."
Lin Yie shakes her hand.
Kal'tsit's fingers are long and slender. They feel quite smooth and cold, yet comforting, which seems to be at odds with her profession. Maybe she is just good at maintaining her appearance. Seems like so.
"Sorry for using you as an excuse." Dr Kal'tsit says,
"But relax. Chen's pride won't allow herself to accept your counselling, even if it is for her insomnia. I just want her to understand the importance of rest, and of course Rhodes Island's opinion."
Lin Yie has no response for her. Should he tell her he doesn't know how to treat insomnia?
Um... Technically speaking, his ability can give people peace of mind, but using it on strangers makes him look like a pervert. Which he is not, mind you!!
"And thank you for helping Liz or it better to say saving her." Kal'tsit looks at Liz. Her tone becomes gentle,
"Liz, do you still remember me? Who I am?"
Nightingale has been standing behind Lin Yie because there were a lot of strangers. She has been holding onto his sleeve nervously, but when she hears Kal'tsit, she raises her head hesitantly. When she sees Kal'tsit, the doubt and caution in her eyes disappear quickly. She seems to remember something when she quietly acknowledges Kal'tsit.
"Yes, I do." Nightingale calls her name, "Dr... Kal'tsit."
That's the second person Nightingale remembers from her broken memory.
Kal'tsit seems pleased, "I am very happy to know you still remember me."
"I won't forget... Dr Kal'tsit." Nightingale whispers, "You saved my life."
Kal'tsit looks lonely for a brief moment., "It was my fault for letting you live in torment."
"It's fine." Nightingale shakes her head, "I am not in pain. I am fine now..."
"Really? That's great." Kal'tsit nods before looking at Lin Yie, "But I will still try my best to help you recover. Dr Lin will help me, right?"
Of course, Lin Yie won't reject that request.
"Dr Kal'tsit." Melantha asks, "What is our mission objective?"
Kal'tsit shakes her head, "I am not sure. Lungmen didn't reveal the details but they should have told Amiya and that guy."
Noir Corne is confused, "But Amiya is far away, and you are here. Why would they not tell you?"
"Maybe it is because I don't deal with this kind of thing. And the mission seems important, so they probably don't want too many people to know?" Kal'tsit says,
"But it doesn't matter. That guy probably gave this task to Amiya, and we should trust Amiya. That guy made her the leader of Rhodes Island after all, so I only have to worry about my job."
The other operators stop asking about the mission. They will know anyway.
"Orchid told us it is about escorting some cargo." Rangers says, "But Lungmen never told us what the cargo is or where it should go. I hope it is not troublesome."
"Amiya and that guy already verified, so it should be fine." Kal'tsit thinks for a moment,
"But you can give me a report before you leave. If the mission seems too difficult, I will try to turn it down, since we were too hasty with the process."
While Kal'tsit and the other operators are talking, Lin Yie is thinking about another problem.
"That guy" should be the doctor, a top executive of Rhodes Island.
The doctor is who Lin Yie wants to meet the most. The reason is simple because the doctor is the most important factor in this world.
The player.
Although Lin Yie died before Arknights's open beta, and he didn't experience the game, he still heard from others about Arknights's closed beta. The player's identity in Arknights is the core actor of Rhodes Island.
The game is made for the player, and the player's role is the core of the game.
Then, who would that core actor be in this world?
That's what Lin Yie wants to know the most.
Kal'tsit's phone rings at this moment.
She skims what's on her phone and frowns. She sounds helpless.
"That guy sent a message."
Translator's Notes
When Kal'tsit checks her message, she calls the sender or the doctor "甩手掌柜," which stands for someone, typically a leader, who doesn't do his job and instead makes his subordinate do his tasks. I don't know how to translate that.
