Ch 92: Another Rescue?

When he is far enough from Matterhorn's room, Lin Yie breathes a sigh of relief. He thinks he did a great job. At least, he was able to accomplish what Matterhorn asked him to do, and his warning seemed to work on Pramanix.

He wasn't lying that her tail would go bald if it were touched too many times. It's not bald yet because it's not touched that often, so he definitely did not lie to Pramanix. He just gave her some advice as a doctor...

Now that he is free again, Lin Yie realizes that he hasn't had dinner yet.

He didn't eat much for lunch, and he ran away from Matterhorn's dinner invitation. It's no wonder he feels hungry now. However, it's way past dinner time, and there is still time before the cafeteria serves food again. He doesn't know where to go.

Should I just eat some pet food instead? But I still need to practice with Yato. Pet food is not enough.

"Dr. Lin."

Lin Yie turns around.

"Shining?"

Shining is finally back.

"Come to my room," Shining says.

Lin Yie thinks about what happened on his first day and shakes his head immediately, "How about the cafeteria?"

Lin Yie sits across from Shining and asks, "Did you come back tonight?"

"Yes, I came back this afternoon," Shining says, "I had to change shift with Nearl, so I didn't come to you right away."

Lin Yie smiles, "Why would you though?"

"Because I thought Liz is with you. I was looking for her."

Lin Yie's smile freezes.

Shining pulls down her hood, revealing her perfect face, "But I never thought Liz was waiting for me."

Lin Yie is a bit surprised, "She was waiting for you?"

"Yes," Shining smiles slightly, 

"Liz heard about my return from Hibiscus, so she waited for me. To be frank, before I left, Liz treated me slightly better than strangers, but now, thanks to you... I'm really glad I brought you to Rhodes Island."

So that's why she stayed in her room.

Lin Yie smiles, "Nightingale is improving every day. She's not so afraid of strangers now, and she treats Hibiscus and Lava like family, even though she still can't remember their names."

"That's why it's all thanks to you," Shining says, 

"Nearl is actually quite happy for Liz, but because of her past decisions, she couldn't bring herself to approach Liz."

"Uh, why though?"

"She probably thinks if she stopped you, all of this wouldn't happen," Shining says softly, 

"She blames herself for what she did."

"In that situation, any normal person wouldn't believe in me," Lin Yie says, "I'm not saying you are not normal. I mean, even I had no confidence in myself."

Shining says, "You're right that I'm not normal, and it's true that I didn't expect much from you. I just didn't want Liz to suffer any longer."

Lin Yie remembers what Shining said and what she would do if he failed.

Fortunately, he succeeded.

"It's all in the past now," Lin Yie says, "Do you need me to talk to Nearl?"

"You?" Shining is a bit surprised.

"Uhm. After all, I am the psychologist," Lin Yie smiles, "That's what I do."

"Perhaps, but I don't think Nearl needs it," Shining shakes her head, "You know her title, right?"

"The Radiant Knight?"

"Yes. That's why she doesn't need your help. She just needs a little time," Shining says, "She said she owes you and Liz an apology."

Lin Yie scratches his head, "How did our conversation get so serious?"

"Normally, I would love to talk about some lighthearted topics," Shining says, "Especially after seeing the progress Liz made. I'm really happy. However, I received Kal'tsit's message."

"What message?"

Shining says, "It was about your new ability and everything you saw in Liz's dream."

Lin Yie expected her to bring this up, so he apologizes, "Sorry, I was too reckless. I almost hurt Nightingale."

Shining shakes her head, "If there's only one person in the world Liz doesn't need apologies from, that would be you."

"That's quite an overstatement."

"I wasn't exaggerating though," Shining says, "At least, that's what I think."

Lin Yie clears his throat, "So, do you know what my ability is? I'm still not quite sure about it."

"If Kal'tsit doesn't understand what it is, there's no way I would know. I never heard about something like that."

"Really?" Lin Yie is somewhat disappointed. He sighs, "I thought I already saved Liz from hell, but I never thought she's been there all these years."

Shining looks into his eyes and says, "The reason I came to you tonight, Dr. Lin, is I hope you can save Nightingale again."
