Lin Yie is not sure if he's imagining things, but it seems much easier for him to deal with Nightingale now. Five minutes ago, she refused to eat her pineapple buns. Five minutes later, she finished the buns obediently. He almost broke out in laughter.
After lunch, Nightingale goes back to the hospital on her own. Lin Yie had thought about inviting her to his office. After all, his office is quite spacious, and she can get some rest there, but Nightingale didn't even give him a chance to bring that up.
Maybe she's just busy.
After all, the entire medical department has been teaching her to get her ready for deployment as soon as possible.
Lin Yie walks back to his office alone. He has no idea if Ptilopsis will even show up for work. Maybe he will be the only one in the office until closing hours again.
...
Lin Yie pushes the door open. To his surprise, somebody is already in his office, sitting on his chair even, but facing away from the door.
"Ptilopsis?" Lin Yie asks in mild amazement, "You're late again."
However, when that person turns around, Lin Yie can't help but doubt his eyes. The first thing or things that caught his attention are the two "rabbit ears."
"Long time no see, Dr. Lin," Amiya smiles as she greets him.
Lin Yie stands still in shock.
"I just returned," Amiya hops off Lin Yie's chair and looks around in a very relaxing manner, "So I came here to take a look. I hope you don't mind?"
Lin Yie nods hastily, "Of course, you're always welcomed here. Do you want some tea?"
"I'm not here to check on your work, and no, thank you. I don't need tea right now," Amiya says, "It's just that I've heard a lot about what you've done, so I've always wanted to have a chat with you. After all, we didn't really have the time when we met last time."
"Chat with me? Are you talking about Liz's treatment?"
"That's just one of the things I want to talk about, but since you brought that up, we can start from there," Amiya looks into his eyes and says, "First of all, as Rhodes Island's executive, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving Ms. Liz. Nearl already told me what happened. It wasn't easy for you."
"I was just doing my job."
"No need to be so humble," Amiya smiles softly, "Rhodes Island runs on meritocracy. Even though you were doing your job, you still accomplished something incredible. After all, Liz is really important to Rhodes Island. I'm sure other people will say the same thing about her as well. Therefore, what do you want from me?"
"Huh?"
Amiya waits for Lin Yie's reply in silence, but when he still doesn't say anything, she quickly explains, albeit slightly flustered, "Ah, I-I meant a reward, something like that. Actually, I'm not used to saying this kind of thing." She takes a deep breath before continuing, "Of course, I will do my best to fulfil it, so I hope you can give me a chance."
Lin Yie raises an eyebrow. If it were Kal'tsit who said this, she would probably just say, "This is your reward," before shoving a thick envelope into his hands. Well... that's what he really wants.
But when Amiya doesn't mention a cash reward at all, Lin Yie can't bring himself to mention it. He's not that thick-skinned.
*Cough* Lin Yie says, "Since you have so much faith in me and left this entire floor in my hands..." He was going to keep flattering, but Amiya's eyes suddenly lit up.
"Ah, yes, the second thing I want to tell you is about this floor," Amiya cuts him off
What?"
"When I made you the manager of this floor, Kal'tsit sensei didn't approve of my decision," Amiya smiles, "She actually didn't want you to come into contact with the residents on this floor, but you have proven yourself to her. To be honest, what you did really surprised me, even more than hearing about Ms. Liz's recovery."
"You meant Skadi?"
"Um. Ms. Skadi is not just one of them. She's the most important person in that group. I thought it would be great if you didn't make her dislike you."
"Really? I think Skadi is quite easy to talk to," Lin Yie puts on some pretence, "We had a great time together."
Nevermind the blood, broken tiles, and the hole on the wall...
Fortunately, Amiya doesn't focus on his lie. She just smiles, "Dr. Lin, it seems the rumours about you are true."
"Rumors? What rumours?"
"That you have the magical power to charm women and make them listen to you. It seems Ms. Skadi isn't immune to you either," Amiya puts her index finger on her lips in thought, before adding, "Ah, they also said men are affected by your power as well."
*Cough* *Cough* *Cough*
"I already read your application," Amiya says, "Honestly, Kal'tsit sensei doesn't want you to hire Ms. Skadi. She was actually going to reject your application, but I stopped her."
Amiya looks into his eyes, "Do you really want Ms. Skadi to be your assistant? To be honest, even I don't know much about Ms. Skadi. Her files are very hard to find."
Lin Yie nods without hesitation, "Yes, I've made my decision."
"If that's the case," Amiya takes a document out of her pocket, as if she had anticipated this outcome, and gives it to Lin Yie, "Ms. Skadi is now officially your new assistant. Good luck, Dr. Lin."
