Ch 82: New Office

By the time Lin Yie arrives at Rhodes Island, it is already midnight. He could have slept in the car, but Silence kept talking with him, and her head spinning trick always freaked him out. Now, he feels really tired, both mentally and physically.

Nightingale walks behind him while holding onto his sleeves and rubbing her eyes, even though she actually slept in the car.

"It was really fun talking with you, Dr. Lin." Silence smiles, "You really are a great psychologist. I hope we can chat again in the future."

Ifrit mutters, "He's just a vet." But she shuts up when she notices Silence's stare.

After some more pleasantries, Lin Yie and Silence go their separate ways with their own devils.

"Pineapple Bun, I want to eat pineapple buns."

Lin Yie feels somewhat irritated, "At this hour? The cafeteria is already closed."

"What can we do?"

"You can eat tomorrow. Just get up early, and we can eat in the cafeteria."

Lin Yie walks her back to her dorm before going back to his, but when he goes inside his room, Ansel is not there.

Whatever.

Lin Yie quickly falls asleep on his bed.

By the time he wakes up, the sun is already up.

Ansel is reading on the other bed. When he sees Lin Yie getting up, he says, "It's almost afternoon."

"Really?" Lin Yie props his head up, "It's already this late. Do you not have work today?"

"Nope."

"You don't work every day?"

"Come on. We have days off."

"Oh really? I guess I misunderstood." Lin Yie says lightly, "How many days can you rest?"

"Once a month." Ansel sounds somewhat proud, "Rhodes Island is a really good company."

"..."

Lin Yie can't bring himself to tell Ansel that he came from a world where he had two days off every week.

"I heard from Orchid." Ansel says, "That you got promoted, right?"

"Um-hum."

"Then, welcome to Rhodes Island."

"Thank you."

"By the way, Orchid asked me to tell you that you don't have to use her office anymore. You have your own office now." Ansel says, "It's on the floor above hers. You should check it later."

"Alright."

Lin Yie gets ready for the day. Before he leaves, he tells Ansel, "If you need consoling, you can ask me for help."

Ansel slams his book shut and runs away.

He was supposed to bring Nightingale to the cafeteria in the morning, but it is already afternoon. Lin Yie calls Hibiscus to ask her about Nightingale. She tells him that Nightingale is still sleeping.

Oh well, I guess I will check my new office instead.

Lin Yie takes the elevator and arrives on the fourth floor.

Orchid's office is at 3A, and mine is at 4B. Wait, doesn't that number sound really ominous?

When he steps out of the elevator, Lin Yie is disappointed with what he sees.

Ansel said this floor is rarely used, but it doesn't seem to be used at all. Floors 1, 2, and 3 have so many empty rooms, why did they have to put me here?

Lin Yie sighs.

He swipes his ID and walks inside his office. When he sees the card boxes, metal shelves, and random things lying around on the floor, he is disappointed again.

He sighs again.

"It's a bit messy right now, but the infrastructure is still good."

Lin Yie turns around and sees a girl behind him. She has blue eyes and brown hair. There are also two long ears on her head.

"I heard about you from Kal'tsit sensei, so I have wanted to meet you in person." The girl smiles, "Welcome to Rhodes Island. I'm Amiya."

Translator's Notes

The "4" in "4B" rhymes with the word "death" in Chinese. Adding a "B" to the end just makes this number sound less grim, but also somewhat more humorous
