Aradhya's POV
" Maa!!!" I squealed as soon as I reached home.
" Ari!!! Tum to doo din baad aane wali thi na?" (Ari!!! Weren't you supposed to come 2 days later?) Mom asked me.
" Surprise!!!" I said and she smiled.
" Mere paas bhi tumhare liye ek surprise hai." (I too have a surprise for you) she said to me.
" Surprise??! Kaise surprise?" (Surprise?! Which surprise?) I asked her.
" Aapne kamre main jao aur khud hi dekh lo." (Go to your room and check it yourself) Mom said smilingly. I was very excited.
" Kahi aapne mere liye uss £5000 ki guitar to nahi liya na?!! Maa, main majak ker rahi thi. Uss guitar main yesa kuch khas baat to hai nahi, uski tune to wesa hi hoga jeisa meri wali kerti hai na?" (Have you bought that guitar for me which costs £5000? Mom, I was joking. That guitar had nothing special in it. It's tune will be the same as mine) I said to her.
" Really?" Mom asked me chuckling.
" I mean... It will be a bit better. Lekin mujhe uski Kya jaroorat, maa? Main kaha stage main perform kerne wali Hoon? Aur mujhe guitar collection k shauk bhi nahi hai. Aapne khamakha." (But I don't need that for real, Mom. I am not going to go through any kind of stage performance and I don't have the hobby of having a collection of guitar. You wasted those money, Mom) I said to her and she chuckled.
" But I think you will love this surprise." Mom said and I nodded.
" I have brought you a gift." I said.
" Kaha hain tumhare gift?" (Where is the gift?) Mom asked chuckled.
" That blue luggage. It's yours." I said to her.
" You brought that luggage for me?! But you brought it last year from nearby shopping center." She asked me amusingly and I chuckled.
" Come on, Maa. I brought that luggage full of gift for you." I said to her.
" Now who is spending money unnecessarily?" Mom asked me crossing arms over her chest. I smiled kissing on her cheeks.
" It is not unnecessary, Maa. It's mandatory. When I buy something for you I feel lucky that I still have my mother with me. There are people who doesn't have that biggest gift of God with them. I am lucky that you are with me and I don't care if I am broke by buying you gifts. I will keep doing that." I said and she shook her head.
" Go to your room. Your surprise is waiting for you." Mom said and I nodded walking toward the staircase. I don't know actually which surprise she is talking about. I walked toward my room.
" Maa, light kyun nahi on kia aapne? Itni andhera kyun hain yaha?" (Mom, why didn't you turned the lights on?) I asked him. I turned the lights on and put my phone on charge. It was dead.
" Kaisy ho, chhoti?" (How are you, Chhoti?) That voice frozen me at once where I was standing and I felt that person hugging me from back.
" Dee!!!" My eyes opened widened.
" Hum ne socha k tum much din baad aarahi hoo. We had a plan to surprise you but you spoiled it." (We thought you will come back a few days later. We had a plan to surprise you but you spoiled it.) She said to me and I broke the hug to face her.
We were standing face to face after 2 years I think. We have talked to each other on video calls but we haven't met each other in person for last 2 years. The person standing before me was Diya Goenka my cousin. She is a beauty with brain. I am so proud of her.
" Dee, aap!!! Aap to ek mahine baad aane wale thay na?" (Dee, you!!! You were to come next month, right?) I asked her.
" Kyun!!! Mujhe yaha dekh ker khush nahi ho tum?" (Why?!! Aren't you happy seeing me here?) She asked me.
" Kya bol rahi hain aap, Dee!!! Main bohot bohot bohot khush hoon." (What are you saying, Dee!!! I am very very very happy to see you.) I said to her.
" Actually, mujhe job mil gyi." (I have got a job here) she said.
" Kya!!! Sach main?" (What!!! Really?) I asked her.
" Haan, permanently to nahi. They selected me as an apprentice. Abhi performance per depend kerti hai ka yeh job mujhe milegi ya nahi." (Yes. But not permanent job. They selected me as an apprentice. Now it depends on the performance if I will get the job or not.) She said. I nodded. " Chhodo, abhi to main yeh saab nahi soch rahi hoon. Abhi to bohot kuch shikna hai, experience matters." ( Leave it. I am not thinking about it as for now. I still have to learn a lot of things and have experiences) she said.
" Great. You are staying here with us that's enough." I said. She chuckled.
" Get freshen up. You must be tired." She said.
" Wait awhile I will be back." I said and went to take shower. It was a big surprise for me. It really was. I love this surprise. I miss all my cousins.
" Chhoti, tum ander so gyi ho Kya?" (Chhoti, have you slept inside?) I heard Dee saying and I sighed deeply.
" Keep patience, Dee. Aarahi hoon main." (I am coming) I said to her.
" Better." She said.
We had dinner after that and it was feeling like home after a long time. I miss the time we used to live in India. I miss home. After dinner Mom talked to us for awhile then she went to her room to sleep. She had a meeting early in the morning. Dee and I were wide awake. I didn't have classes tomorrow. I was free tomorrow.
" Chhoti, mujhe kaal shopping jana hain. Tum free ho Kal?" (Chhoti, I need to go for shopping tomorrow. Are you free tomorrow?) She asked me.
" Yup. I don't have classes tomorrow." I said to her.
" That's great." She said and was arranging her clothes in the closet.
" Are you going to wear Saree in your office? Won't you feel awkward?" I asked her. She chuckled.
" Yesa kyun, Chhoti? I am comfortable wearing Saree anywhere." (Why is that, Chhoti? I am comfortable wearing Saree anywhere.) She said and I nodded. " I even attended my classes and labs in the university wearing Saree. There is uncomfortableness for wearing whatever I want to wear. It's my decision to choose what I want to wear and I don't think anyone has the right to tell me what I should do and what not." She said and I smiled.
" Only thing I am worried about is my boss." She said.
" Why is that?" I asked her.
" He is very angry arrogant person who doesn't care about anything. I just wish I can manage to save myself from his wrath." She said and I chuckled.
" You will." I said. She smiled.
Women of my family are always inspiration for me. My mom, my aunts, my cousins. They are talented, strong and brave.
