A Strange Lunch

The next week I enter the diner on the edge of the highway that gets mostly traffic from the highway and I scan the crowd before walking over to the human I was suppose to meet. I spied a number of shifters from her pack with a few of the local men from town doing their best to appear to be just having a normal lunch.

The waitress goes to lead me to the counter when I nod my head at the table I was already heading to. The serial killer looks at me with great interest as I survey the room before sitting down. The waitress comes to ask me my drink and I order an unsweetened tea, never liking the amount of sugar in 'sweet tea' I simply order unsweetened. I lever the woman a look and point to the four shifters she brought with her and say, "the four you brought with don't blend well." The woman turns to look briefly then shrugs, "well they are all Canadian's with me today they would mix in best as tourists. How many did you send in? I counted only two."

I smile at the woman, and I point to the group of three fisher shifters arguing over their lunch choices. "Family of fishers, those brothers argue over everything. They eat here once a week when they have pissed their wives off. They were quite willing to hang out here for lunch." The woman observes them for a few minutes with that 'watching a bug' look. "I haven't met any fishers before, they always that loud?" I chuckle and nod my head, "like their 'wild' cousins they tend to do everything loudly."

The woman nods her head as the waitress meanders over with my drink, and asks us for our orders. I nod to the human for her to order first, she smirks and orders a cheese burger rare and over salted fries. I shake my head and order a turkey club sandwich, with a side of fries with cheese and a portion of cut fruit.

The woman observes my order and comments, "so a larger type then. As while you shifters don't eat like they do in the books the larger types do tend to make sure their meals are more varied." I nod my head, and she sits waiting. I know what she is waiting for, and I take a long drink from my tea.

"So June berating me during the match made you want to talk to me?" The woman nods her head, "yes because you are so inside her head with how she is mentally disturbed by your existence. She seeks to have power that I feel you in reality do wield."

She keeps staring at me, "so that is fascinating to you then? That I can make someone think so much about me that they spend a great deal of their time trying to find ways to cause me strife?" The woman nods her head and I could see her starting to get frustrated with me, for not answering her unspoken question.

"So how is June adjusting since the fight? She has refused to speak with her two sisters, one of which she attempted to kill." I keep prodding at subjects she is willing to talk about while deflecting from the one question she wants to ask me. The human shakes her head, "that foolish woman wanted to get up as soon as the sedatives were pumped into her. Since they could not keep her quiet about how she felt she could keep fighting they had to keep her drugged two days." She then looks at me with curiosity, "sisters? You would not have mentioned them being sisters without reason, what is so special about her sisters?"

I nod my head to the fisher brothers as they argue over their pie choices, "those three are triplets. Do you know how rare those are for a shifters? She is part of a set of triplets, both of her sisters found their mates before her. One is mated to a deer and the other a local raccoon here. Her mate is an Alpha wolf shifter who is in jail for attempted kidnapping and disrupting a listed shifter. She honestly had accidentally stabbed him with a silver dagger. He chose to reject her."

The human nods her head thinking, "that is interesting information. So she would have had the power she had wanted? Then she screwed it up," I nod my head. The woman shakes her head and says, "she was so foolish. I go back to my other statement she is a worse monster than me." I nod my head as I watch the human think a few minutes while the waitress brings our food to the table.

I nibble on a fry, and she picks up one of hers and looks it over before asking me "so are you going to tell me?" I pop a piece of strawberry into my mouth, "tell you what?" I see her guards turn to me and I smile at them. They really are focused on her, as I am annoying her. She levers me a look and takes a big bite out of the burger. After finishing her mouthful she speaks, "taking a risk by annoying me aren't you?" I smile at her and respond, "no. I know what your target type was, you hunted down the anti super movement. You like shifters, so I seriously doubt I can truly annoy you."

The woman laughs as I take a bite of my own sandwich, and I wave a hand. "However I will answer your question, that you have yet to honestly ask me. I am a special," the human pauses halfway to her mouth with her burger blinking. I guess she had not expected that as an option, she quickly takes another bite trying to 'recover' her mental footing after hearing what I am. She takes another look around the room.

"You didn't tell me all of your guards have you?" I smile at her and take another bite and chewing slowly. She gives me a look and scans the room again, she does notice a person at the counter who is only drinking coffee and reading a paper. For the third time may I add.

"The one at the counter, he's doing a poor job." I shrug my shoulders, "what do you expect with a paramilitary vampire?" the woman gives me a very measured look as I take another slow bite of my sandwich.

How's the posturing going kitten? Seamus speaks in my head, oh wonderful. I have her confused, she also is a bit disconcerted by your guard friend sitting at the counter reading the paper for the fourth time. I hear Seamus chuckle, well it would have been to obvious if I had gone in. I also doubt the owners there would like to see me in there. I do scare most normal people, now remember to make sure she asks you for info. Don't volunteer any. I mentally nod my head and mentally refocus on the human before me who is playing with her fries.

"So I know there are a handful of 'special' shifters in this area, you must be a Saber." I nod my head, and the woman shakes her head. "That woman really messed up by trying to mess with you in any way didn't she?" I nod my head, "the raccoon whom her sister is mated to is my best friend. I like her sister, June I don't like." The woman nods her head in response, "I can understand. She needs help, maybe more than I did." I nod my head in response and she turns her head partly looking to the back of the room and I see a man get up from a table and slowly leave the diner.

She had done it in a way to make it look like she was taking a bite and after she finishes her mouthful she nods her head to the door. "Was that one of yours?" I look to the door, "so you think there is something odd about them?" The human nods at me and Doug appears at my shoulder, "what did you see?" Doug asks her and she nods her head, "your 'friend' I assume." I nod my head, and she continues. "I didn't see anything but I had a feeling," I nod my head and say to Doug. Go and ask long fang to dig up info on that person, I bet they are an anti super based on how her brain is wired." Doug nods his head and walks over to the vampire who after being told looks up at me and nods his head then gets up and goes out of the room.

I incline my head towards the human, "thank you for the heads up." She nods her head and smiles at me, "so next time can we have a normal lunch? I kinda like you." I nod my head and chuckle as we both finish our lunches discussing her training regiment.
