The crisp February air greets me as I step out of the Common Room, holding the cursed necklace in a box. I was actually going to do this.
I had to.
I set someone under the Imperius curse to give the necklace to Katie Bell, who will give it to Dumbledore if all runs smoothly. I just hope I don't run into Sasha before I see Katie.
When I arrive at Hogsmeade, Katie is not here, meaning I have some time to kill before the moment of truth. I spot someone I recognize walking with her friends into the Three Broomsticks.
It's Sasha. Damn it. Going against the promise I made to myself, I follow her inside. She's with Harry, Hermione, Ron, Diara, and Cameron ordering Butterbeers.
"So how are you and Draco?" Harry asks.
"Wouldn't you like to know," Sasha replies, sipping away. Hermione chuckles a bit.
"Things are alright I guess. They're different, but I have to cut him some slack," Diara nods, understanding.
"Or I'll kick him to the curb," I chuckle at that.
"Where is Draco?" Cameron asks. "Also this stuff is great!"
Sasha laughs. "Working probably" I can hear the sadness in her voice and I feel horrible. Before I can hear anything else, Katie Bell and her friend Leane enter the restaurant.
It's now or never.
I hand the box to a waitress I put under the curse and walk out, hoping to get away before Katie gets it. I hang around Honeydukes before I hear an ear-piercing scream.
"KAITE! GET DOWN! SOMEONE HELP!" Kaite is floating in the air. She touched the necklace, which poisons half-bloods and Muggles.
"Oh my god!" Sasha goes pale and Diara screams almost as loud as Leane.
"Malfoy," Harry mutters under his breath. Hagrid grabe Katie and rushes her back to Hogwarts. Sasha can't move, she's in too much shock.
"What was that?" Cameron peeps as I approach them.
"Did you see it?" Diara asks as Harry and Hermione leave.
"Uh huh," I reply, not saying anything else. Sasha takes off, saying goodbye to her friends before apparating away.
"Dude, that was-" Cameron exhales, the cold making his breath foggy.
"We should head back now," Diara takes Cameron's hand and they head back to their host family, who was coming out of a clothing store. I apparate back to my dorm, where Sasha chews at a sugar quill.
"Hey," She looks up.
"C'mere," I give her a comforting hug. She hugs me back like she doesn't want to let go.
"It's alright, love. I'm right here," I kiss her hair before she lets go.
"That was...I hope Katie will be alright," Sasha sits on the bed, chewing on the nearly finished sugar quill. I rub her back.
"She will be," I assure her, but I'm not so sure.
"You can be honest with me," Sasha replies, sipping at some water.
"That necklace could have killed Katie since she's a half-blood. I don't know if she'll survive," I explain. Sasha nods and opens one of the many journals now stashed in a corner. She flips through the pages to find one. It's an exact drawing of the necklace.
"Was this it?" She asks and I nod. Sasha closes the book and looks at me.
"Be honest, was this your doing?" She asks me.
