"He's in Azkaban?" Harry asks me in the library that evening after dinner.
"I don't know. This was addressed to me about two years ago, so my father could be dead or he could have escaped," I reply, scanning through old newspaper articles looking for something that will tell me where my dad went.
"I'm sure he's alright," Harry assures as we both keep looking through more articles. Something about this seems pointless. I lean back, exhausted.
"We've looked through almost two years of newspaper and have found nothing. Maybe my dad is gone," I sigh. Harry smiles sadly at me. It was nice of him to help me.
"Maybe we can ask Dumbledore. If it's alright with you, I'm going to head back to the dungeons," Harry asks and I nod, cleaning up the newspapers. I pull out my pocket picture of my dad and I.
"I miss you, Dad. I hope you're alright. I'm trying to find you, but it's pretty hard. You're not in any of the newspapers, and no one is telling me anything. Please send me something, anything," I wipe my eyes and head back to the dungeons. Electra, my owl perches on my shoulder, probably tired from a day of carrying letters back and forth between both Draco and Harry. I whisper the password and walk inside the common room. Draco is pacing back and forth and didn't seem to notice me coming in.
"Merlin Sasha, you scared me," Draco says, jumping a bit.
"Sorry," I kiss his cheek and he strokes Electra's midnight blue wings.
"Any luck?" He asks. I sadly shake my head and Draco hugs me.
"I'm sure things will work out. Did you try the power thing?" Draco asks, and I know he's referring to the ability I used to get out of imprisonment with Bellatrix.
"That's a good idea, Draco. I'll go try that," I rush to my dorm, hoping no one was in there. I was alone.
I take out a family Christmas card of Jenson, Mom, Dad, and Seth. It was one of the few things I took to remember my biological family. I study my dad's hazel eyes with their ambitious, kind sparkle. I study his light brown hair with it's fading dirty blonde ends, and his tall, ordinary figure.
I close my eyes, picturing my father. I brought out old memories of us, like when he brought home Seth for me, when I saw the Patronus, when we would walk to get ice cream every Friday. I picture him next to me, wand in hand, and Mom by his side. The world began to spin. My mind couldn't focus anymore. I couldn't open my eyes and I began to fall.
The world spins and spins like a top, memories floating above me, circling me. It was getting harder to breathe like there was something stuck in my throat keeping me from breathing. I shot up straight.
"Sasha!" Draco rushes over to me, and only did I realize that I'm in Dumbledore's office with Madam Pomfrey, Professor Snape, and Dumbledore by my side. I rub my temples, I had a pounding headache.
"What happened?" Draco asks and I lean back, collecting my thoughts.
"I tried the power thing, and I guess it was too much," The adults look confused.
"Miss Dail-Myers, what do you mean by 'power'?" Dumbledore asks, leaning by the bed I was laying on.
"When I was captured the second time, I thought about the chains around me breaking, and they did. I don't know how I did it, but I did. That's also how I got back to Hogwarts. I tried to imagine my father to bring him here, but it didn't work," The adults turn around, whispering to themselves. They turn back around.
"Miss Dail-Myers, this is a rare skill that you will need to control. If not, the Dark Lord could use it against you. Professor Snape can help you with that," Snape looks at me while Dumbledore says that. I nod.
"You'll need lots of rest, so let's go now," Madam Pomfrey says.
"Wait," I say and everyone looks at me. "I need to know where my father is," I say. The adults collectively look down.
"Miss Dail-Myers now is not a good time.." Dumbledore starts.
"I need to know. He left me when I was fourteen, and he says that he needs me. In his last journal entry, he said he was fading away. I need to help him. I've looked through over two years worth of newspaper articles and I haven't found anything. I need to know, I have to know!" I cry, astonished with myself. Madam Pomfrey kneels next to me.
"Sasha, no one knows where your father is because he never made it to Azkaban," She says softly. I look at her, confused.
"But he left me a cell with a whole bunch of magical objects and more journals," I reply, my mind searching through the pictures I saw in the articles.
"That's all we know now. But, the Ministry of Magic is investigating now," With that, I was wheeled away. Draco follows me and sits by my side when we arrive in the Hospital Wing.
"This is all my fault, Sasha. I shouldn't have suggested that," Draco says glumly, tears brim his beautiful eyes.
"It's not your fault, neither of us knew," I say weakly, tired from the fall. Draco puts his head in his hands for a moment, then pulls something out of his pocket.
"I guess I can give you your birthday present now," Draco hands me a small white leather box. I open it. Inside is a gorgeous diamond promise ring.
"Oh my gosh, it's amazing. Draco, you didn't have to," I kiss his cheek, smiling. I slip it onto my middle finger, beaming.
"It's a promise to love you and keep you safe. Whenever you're in trouble, the tip of my wand glows red and guides me to you," Draco explains and I'm shocked at how he was able to find this.
"I love it. Thank you," He hands me a card. I open it.
Sasha, my shining star,
I can't believe I'm with you, celebrating your seventeenth birthday. From the moment I met you, you did something to me. You made me feel like nothing else mattered but you. You, your gorgeous hazel eyes, the way you could make anyone smile, your strength. How you're so kind to everyone, especially me. I never knew I could love anyone as much as you.
Happy birthday my love, my whole world, brighter than all the stars in the sky. I love you more than words can express.
Love,
Draco
Happy tears well in my eyes and I hug him. "And I love you, Draco," I wipe my eyes and put the card next to me. We play a few games of cards before Draco gets caught and he has to head back to the dungeons.
"I feel better, Madam Pomfrey. May I please go back?" I ask, hating being alone.
"If you think you will be alright, sure. Come back if you feel faint," I thank her and take Draco's hand. We head back downstairs, a feeling of ecstasy flooding me. The Slytherin Prince was mine.
Kinda hard to believe.
A/N: Hope everyone had an amazing holiday weekend! Thanks again for 1k, it's amazing how we got here. Love you all!!
