THUMP THUMP.
I felt Sasha's soft heartbeat against my chest. She was faced towards me, a tiny smile etched on her lips. Her gold dress sits on my chair, and she's wearing my green sweatpants and a sweater I never use.
I check the time: 11:05 a.m. Wow, I was tired. We got home around six in the morning after dancing on the sandy beach with Diara and Cameron. Sasha had fallen asleep on my shoulder, and I saw how serene she looked.
I kiss her forehead softly, making sure to not wake her up. Her eyes flutter open.
"Good morning Starshine," I say softly. She snuggles into my open arms.
"Mmm good morning," Sasha replies in a sleepy voice. I hold her closer and watch as she smiles.
"Last night was amazing," She whispers.
"It was. You did an amazing job." I say truthfully. Sasha sits up slowly.
"Meh, it's Saturday." She lays back down and I pull her closer. She kisses my nose and snuggles into my arms.
"Are you hungry?" I ask her and she shrugs. I start to get up, but she pulls my arm.
"Don't go," Sasha says smiling.
"Why?" I ask her.
"I'll be lonely." She says, her sleepy voice returning. I lay back down and wrap her in my arms.
"Better?" I ask.
"Mhm," Sasha mutters softly as I kiss her forehead. Before I know it, she's asleep again.
I make myself some lunch since I missed breakfast and brought it to my room. Sasha is awake and wearing army patterned pants with a black shirt.
"The star has woken up." I kiss her quickly.
"I was tired," Sasha says as she bites into some toast. She turns on the TV and I sit next to her.
"Draco?"
"Hm?"
"Where are your parents?" I freeze.
"At this point, I don't know. They come and go a lot." I lie.
"I'm sorry. You have me, I'm not going anywhere." Sasha rests her head on my shoulder. I sit her on my lap. She leans her head back to kiss my cheek.
"We should do something today. Like, go out." Sasha is now laying in my lap as I'm playing with her hair.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" I ask. Sasha thinks.
"We can go to watch the stars tonight, but during the day we can drive go-carts." She suggests and I guess I look confused because her mouth drops open.
"You seriously don't know what a go-cart is?" I shake my head. "It's basically a small one-person car," Sasha explains. She stands up.
"We can do a quintuple date. With you and me, Diara and Cameron, Mitch and Coleen, and Eli and Cece." She offers.
"Are you gonna be okay with all those people?" I ask. Sasha nods.
I change into a white shirt and dark jeans as Sasha calls the group.
"We're gonna meet at two, but it's about forty minutes from here," Sasha says. I nod along.
"It's almost 11:30, so what do you want to do?" I ask her. Sasha quickly braids a small strand of her hair. I hug her from behind and watch as she blushes.
"We can just watch a movie or something," Sasha suggests and I nod. I rest my head on her shoulder. I could stay like this forever, just me and her.
Sasha's phone begins to ring. "Hold on." She kisses my cheek as she takes her call outside her room.
"Hey, Jay Jay." Pause. "I'm good, with Draco now. I'll be home tonight though." Pause again. "They did?" Short pause. "What were the results?" Sasha looks anxious. There was a long pause as Sasha sits on the floor, in shock. "Yeah I understand the first part but..." She whispers now. "Depression? How?!" My heart shatters. How did Sasha get depression?
"So what about the medication?" Pause. "Jenson, we can't afford that. I guess I'll double dose on the ones I have now." Pause. "Ok, see you." She hangs up the phone and I pretended not to hear anything.
"Everything okay?" I ask as Sasha sits on my bed, her head in her hands. No answer. I sit next to her, slowly rubbing her back.
"Hey. You can tell me anything, okay? I'll still be here." I say softly. Sasha looks up, her hazel eyes filled with sadness.
"I have depression," She whispers.
I don't say anything.
"And my anxiety got worse." Sasha continues. I wrap her in my arms, hoping to protect her from everything going on.
"I'll always be here, okay?" I say, and Sasha smiles sadly.
We arrive at the go-cart track at exactly two o'clock. Cece and Eli were waiting outside.
"Hey, guys!" Cece waves as Sasha and I get out of the car. Sasha hugs Cece and I fist-bump Eli.
"Diara and Cameron are getting everyone signed up, and Mitch and Coleen are on their way," Cece explains as Diara comes outside. Sasha hugs Diara and Cameron both. They must know as well.
Sasha explains the rules and how to win. Basically, the person with the fastest lap time out of twenty or thirty laps wins. Everyone straps in their helmets and we were each assigned a car.
The employee removed a cone that blocked the track, and Cece, the first car, slowly made her way, then accelerated. Sasha was next, then me. She sped through, making precise turns. I managed to catch up, the two of us next to each other.
"You okay?" I yell.
"I'll be better when I whip your butt!" Sasha speeds forward, leaving me behind. Sasha makes a sharp right turn, landing her at the front of Cece's car. Her next victim is Mitch, but he was too fast for her. He blocked off her entrance to victory, meaning she was forced to slow down.
"Sasha floor it!" Diara screams, and Sasha accelerates so fast that Mitch didn't have time to block her off. Cameron cheers, but realizes he's next and speeds up.
We finish, with Mitch, Cameron, and Sasha tieing for first place, then Diara and Cece for second, and me for third. Sasha is laughing until she spots someone at the door.
"Hakeema." She seethes. Hakeema's bright pink hair flowed with six other people.
"The whole gang is here." Diara whispers. We all make our way out when Hakeema grabs my arm.
"Draco right?" She asks, twirling her hair on her finger.
"Yeah?" I say, wary of her intentions.
"How about we hang out tonight?" She asks, inching closer.
"He has a girlfriend." I snap around, Sasha standing right behind me.
"HER?! Really?!" Hakeema screeches.
"I think all that pink dye has seeped into your brain, KiKi. Or you just didn't remember last night. Or maybe you just got too wasted, again. Nice seeing you!" Sasha flashes a fake smile and walks out. I follow.
"Wow." Was all I said.
"You haven't seen the half of it." Sasha chuckles as we drive away.
