Draco Malfoy has had many times in his life when he has been devastated. It's been something he has had to deal with since the moment he first understood the world.
But this, this is nothing Draco has ever experienced.
He couldn't sleep, he couldn't eat, he couldn't even talk without thinking about Sasha. His friends have been trying to help him, but in all honesty, they haven't been doing much better. Blaise hasn't eaten in who knows how long, it's a miracle if Theo leaves his room, Diara and Cameron haven't gone to school since Sasha went into a coma, and Jenson and Issac have been admitted into the hospital twice for severe panic attacks.
So in a nutshell, no one is doing well. The only person doing remotely well is Kylie, and that's because someone has to be strong.
Everyone congregates in the Room of Requirements. Recently, Theo and Draco have absorbed themselves in the Vanishing Cabinet in a desperate effort to detour their thoughts from Sasha. It never works, but at least they're working. Oddly enough, Theo and Blaise haven't touched alcohol since Sasha got sick. She would have wanted that, the two remind themselves every day.
"So...I hear Sasha is staying at Hogwarts so Dumbledore can watch her," Blaise says quietly, trying to break the tension.
"That's good," Kylie says, rubbing Blaise's back to keep him calm. Draco says nothing. Instead, he holds the photo album he's been adding to, staring at the photos of Sasha. Kylie takes the book from him.
"Give it back," Draco says but Kylie simply puts it on the floor for everyone to see.
"Oh, sorry," Draco apologizes and sits down on the floor.
"I miss Sasha so much," Theo says, barely above a whisper as they stare at the pictures.
"Not as much as I do," Draco chokes up, tears already spilling out of his eyes like a raincloud. Truth be told, that's how everyone has been feeling. Like a raincloud, their tears being the drops of rain that splash onto their tear-streaked cheeks. Kylie switches to rubbing Draco's back before someone opens the door.
"What's Potter doing here?" Theo snaps. Kylie shoots him a look.
"I came to say Madam Pomfrey is allowing visitors," Harry says before leaving.
Visitors. No one but Harry has been allowed to see Sasha for three weeks because of her dire state. This means she's getting better, everyone thinks.
Or worse.
No one had ever seen people run so fast. The group tears up to the Hospital Wing, throwing the door open as they arrive.
"Oh, there they are. Mister Potter did say visitors would be rushing over. She's this way," Madam Pomfrey leads the anxious group over to the back room of the Hospital Wing. There she was, connected to fewer tubes and machines now, but still some. She looks as peaceful as you can be in a coma.
Kylie covers her mouth, scared. She was slowly losing her strength, it was only a matter of time before she crumbles too.
"Sasha?" Draco slowly approaches his girlfriend, being careful to not step on anything. Draco's sad tears have now turned into somewhat hopeful tears.
"Can she hear us?" Draco asks hopefully.
"A little bit. She's been getting much better over the last 48 hours. I'll give you all some time with her," With that, Madam Pomfrey left.
There's hope, Draco thinks to himself and he pulls up a chair for himself. Everyone could sense that he needed some time.
"We'll wait for you to finish," Blaise ushers the group out, leaving Draco alone.
"Hey, love. I hope you are feeling better," Draco holds Sasha's slightly warm hand in his.
"I really miss you, and not going to lie, I'm scared. I just want you to be okay," Draco's voice breaks a bit. He squeezes Sasha's hand, and her lips twitch into a smile.
No, Draco thought. I'm hallucinating. He squeezes her hand again, and the twitched smile comes back.
She's still here, Draco thinks, happy tears filling his eyes.
"Oi!" Draco beckons for everyone to come in. He demonstrates again, and the twitch smile holds for longer. Everyone happily hugs each other.
"She's gonna be alright, mate," Blaise says, and for the first time, he knows it for a fact.
Over the next two days, Sasha's condition improved. She became receptive to sounds and can apparently hear things around her. It was one especially cold January morning when Sasha finally woke up. Draco and the crew came to visit her, Draco holding Hazelnut for Sasha, and everyone else leaving balloons or candy. Everyone had started eating again, and even though this shouldn't be a good thing, Blaise and Theo are back to consuming alcohol, not as much, but still.
Draco places Hazelnut next to Sasha, and she starts to move.
"She's moving!" Kylie cries, and everyone grips each other. Sasha's eyes flutter open and everyone cheers.
"What..." Sasha couldn't even talk before her friends hug her, happy tears streaming down all their faces.
"Oh my gosh...hello to you guys too," Sasha smiles, she saw how much her friends care for her. She smiles and realizes where she is.
"What happened?" Sasha asks.
"You fell into a coma because He was feeding off of you too much," Draco says, stroking Sasha's hand.
"I can imagine how scared you guys were," Sasha says, kissing Draco on the cheek.
"Yeah," Everyone says before Evan Myers enters the room.
"My apologizes, I didn't know it was this crowded in here," He says. Draco stands up to give Evan the chair and everyone leaves.
"I was so scared. I cannot be here for long, but you need to build walls. And stay away from Malfoy," Evan advises.
Sasha shakes her head. "Draco has nothing to do with this, Dad. I will learn how to build walls. Harry already knows how, so I'll ask him for help," Sasha replies. Her father nods.
"Write me. I'll try and research. I love you," And with that, he leaves.
He couldn't wait until I was better to leave again, Sasha thinks to herself before her friends come back to keep her company. However, everyone was thinking the same thing.
It's only going to get worse from here.
