Nick and I were walking across the open field to the edge of town where our house stood. The streets were filled with debris and trash, the field was even worse parts of it was on fire. I gave a thoughtful look at the house in front of us thinking of all the memories in this house I grew up in and the people who lived here.
"Home." I muttered feeling light hearted.
Nick looked at me excitedly, leading me inside. I looked around the place while Nick closed the door behind us. It was as if nothing changed, the walls were still littered with painted or sketched portraits and still in the way my grandmother had left it. Out of all of the houses they built, Grandma put a lot of effort into this one. It was styled and modern. Mom kept it that way so I didn't change anything either.
Nick turned on a light causing my eyes to shut close in pain for a moment, before letting them adjust.
"Nothing's different." I said looking at him.
"Yeah." Nicky said quietly. "Well, the family didn't want to.... changing things made it seem so real. Aunty comes up once in a while and stays until the sun rises, sometimes Rome and Kassie trade off but since Kassie is busy with Sophia" I raised an eyebrow at him. "She had a daughter Sophia, which is kinda cool, she's a hybrid like Kass. Anyway, you must be starving."
"I kind of drank demon blood." I told him sticking my tonged out in disgust.
"Ew." He muttered wrinkling his nose. "Yeah that can make you sick. I'll heat up some gator blood? you can go get cleaned up."
"My rooms still the same to, I take it?" I asked
"Yeah."
I gave him a small smile and nodded, turning and walked off, up the stairs.
---
Walking into my room, I went right into my bathroom and turned on the hot water I stepped in and nearly groaned in pleasure feeling the water melt everything. I scrubbed and scrubbed trying to get the dirt and blood out.
---
Once I had practically burned clean my scalp and body, I got out wrapping myself up in a towel and walked out, back into the bedroom to my closet and nearly smiled. I decided to wear something loose and picked a black buttoned-down shirt and put it on over my black camisole, and a pair of loose black sweats. I took a seat at my vanity and pulled my hair back, I caught sight of myself in the mirror and froze, staring at myself. I almost didn't recognize myself.
My eyes were still red with hunger, going so long without blood it would take me forever to rebuild my endurance.
I slowly buttoned the shirt and stood up to walk downstairs.
I walked into the kitchen just as Nick pulled a mug from the microwave and sat it on the isle. I sat down, and grabbed the cup in both hands feeling the warmth.
"Aunty comes up once a month to help out with bills, she wanted me to go live with her but I didn't want to leave the house so we made arrangements that I could still live here and she'd come up once in awhile." Nick told me. "And all of our friends have been super kind. Dr. Cullen sent this new private blend he's been working on, it has some kind of antibiotic in them."
"That's great Nicky." I told him, glancing down at the red warmy goodness, seeing my nails and looked at them causing Nick to notice.
"We should call Aunty or one of the girls have them come take care of that." He said reaching out to inspect them. Instinctively I pulled back making him look like a wounded puppy. I frowned.
"Sorry kid, I'm still not use to fast contact just yet." I told him taking a drink, seeing the look on his face. "I'll be fine Nicky just give me time....so what else has happened?"
