Awakening

Piper's POV

I fell asleep with my head on Alex's bed again.
I woke up with someone calling my name and I was startled. I jerked awake and immediately stood up.
"Yes I'm awake! I'm awake!". I blurted out.

I look around the room and there was nobody here. I can see from the window that it's still dark outside. I thought a nurse was trying to wake me again to check on, Alex.

I might have been having nightmares again.
These past days I'm always woken up by my nightmares, if not from the nurses and doctors.

It's always the same. Alex, is walking away from me. I try to reach for her and run after her as fast as I could but everytime I couldn't catch her and that always wake me up.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath trying to compose myself. My heart is pounding so hard.
I opened my eyes and I habitually look over at my wife, which I do a lot lately. That's always been my routine, and everytime I get frustrated to see her eyes closed.

But today a pair of piercing green eyes are staring back at me.

"Hi". Alex said hoarsely.

It caught me off guard. She is awake! My wife is finally awake!

"Alex! Oh my God, oh my God!". I couldn't believe it.

"You are awake!"

"Are you awake?". I had to make sure this is real.

"Yes, I guess I am". She said and chuckled.

"Ouch". She moaned in pain.

"What hurts?". I said panicking. She's in pain and I have to do something.

"I'll call the doctor. Oh my God!".

I clumsily turn around and tripped on the chair on my way out and almost fell down, but I caught myself.
I ran outside to the nurse's station. I am so nervous and I don't know what to do.

"She..." I stuttered.
"She just woke up. She's over there". I said in full panic.

"My wife is awake and she's in pain can you please help her?". I begged the nurse.

"I'll page Dr. Shepherd". She replied.

I rush back to Alex's room. She has her eyes shut tight and I know she's in pain. Oh my poor wife.

"Damn it Babe, what hurts?". I demanded anxiously.

"Everything". She said gritting her teeth.

"Oh my God!". My instinct is to touch her and comfort her but I don't know where to touch her, she has bruises and injuries all over her body.

Alex, open her eyes and probably saw that I am in distress.

"Piper, relax. Did you call the Doctor?". She asked calmly.

"Yes, yes, I did. I called the Doctor. Oh my God, Alex. I don't know what to do". I feel like I'm going to pass out.

"Sit down". She growled.

How can she do that? How can she be so calm when I want to jump out of my skin already.

Dr. Shepherd arrived with Dr. Sloan and two nurses.
"Hi, my name is Dr. Shepherd and this is Dr. Sloan, we are your attending physician. It's good to see that you are awake Ms.Vause, I am going to check on your Neuro Function.
Can you follow me with your eyes?".
