The next morning Sapphire was up all night and left immediately when the sun was up. She didn't take her car all she did was just walk and walk and walk until she could find some answers until finally she reach the giant archives building. This building kept all of the towns records of every resident who ever lived in the town. She decided to try and find something on her families because she remembered that her mother said that her family lived in that town basically forever.
"Hi i'm looking for some historic information on my family"
"Okay when you go inside all papers are listed by last name alphabetically"
"Thank you" Sapphire went inside
There were all these boxes filled to the top with papers. They were sitting on top of these metal shelves that reached the ceiling. She was walking through and found these boxes filled with history about her family. As she was looking through she found something about her mother. It was a report written by a psychiatrist.
It read "Patient displays a basic mental state of insanity which she in turn talks to invisible beings in the room and claims that she must help them"
Sapphire gasps so loud that the man actually got up out of his chair and came back into the archives room and asked "Are you okay?"
"Yes sir" she completely lied
She continued to read through the pages and everything that her mother described to this doctor is what she has been feeling recently. She got to a section where her mother told about research she had done when it was first happening to her. She read aloud "people in this world have a certain gift that allow them to speak with the dead who refuse to cross over into the light"
She asked him if she could take the box or at least a folder with her because she wanted to continue reading however she couldn't stay very long to read the entire file. The man agreed and she walked out and just kept walking. She decided to go to her brothers new dorm at his campus to see if she could get any answers out of him.
"Hi I'm Sapphire i'm looking for my brother Elliot is he here right now?"
A guy looked at her "yeah he's in his room 2nd door on the right"
She started walking and then without knocking she barged into his room demanding answers. She dropped down the files and asked if he knew anything about what was going on.
"Am i going crazy or is this real?" She began to freak out
"Sapph your not crazy and yes it is all real" he said "before we were born all of this actually happened to mom. She told me all of this when I was about 14"
"And why was I never told any of this?" she asked demanding for answers
"Because she knew if she did the same thing would happen to you and now that your asking about it i'm guessing your starting to see them now also"
"I think i'm going crazy" she yelled as she sat on Elliot's bed "there's only one thing to do"
"Forget you can hear and see them forever"
"No way! I need to find mom and ask her how I can embrace and use this so called gift"
"Sapphire I don't think that's the best idea. You haven't seen or talked to mom since you were nine years old"
She grabbed all the files put them together in the folders and left the room slamming the door behind her. And then she exited quickly out the front door of the dorm. She was then walking extremely fast until she reached the town square. She sat on a bench and just thought for a while. She had no idea how she was going to find her mom but she knew she had to try. She tried to look up her name online but nothing about right now came up. It was only stuff from the past. Then she looked in files for any kind of phone number. When she found a few she decided to call them.
"Hello?"
"Hi my name is.....Gina, and i'm looking for some information on a woman with the last name Dawson"
"I'm sorry we have no body with that name in our files"
*hangs up phone* *then redials another number*
"Hello my name is.....Rebecca and i'm looking for a woman by the last name of Dawson in any of your records"
"I'm sorry ma'am but there's no one by the name"
*the phone hung up*
Sapphire then remembered that when she was talking to her brother she got a call from a random number and never called it back when Elliot told her it was her mother. Until she finally tried to call the number back.
*dials the number*
"Hello..." Sapphire said
"Hello Sapphire I knew you'd call me back" she said "you always strive to finish exactly what you started"
"Can you meet me for coffee please? I can't do this over the phone"
"Sure i'll meet you in about 20 minutes at Berkeley Cafe"
Sapphire waited and waited for her mother to show up at the cafe that she would intensely drink her coffee. As soon as she was about to split and leave the cafe a women walked in with long dark brown hair and giant sunglasses. She had dark purple nearly black M.A.C. lipstick on and she immediately noticed Sapphire and came to sit down with her at the table.
"Sapphire" she said with confidence
"Hi so i'm guessing your my mom"
"Yes I am and I know exactly why you called"
"How could you have known?" She asked
"Because your 18th birthday just passed, I tried calling you because I knew this would happen to you" she continued to speak "you are beginning to see them all around you talking and talking endlessly right?"
"Yeah I feel like i'm going insane but I don't understand why can't Elliot hear or see them either"
"Because I charmed him when he was a baby, and I told him about his charm when I told him about my past"
"Why did you leave and not tell me?"
"I didn't have a choice sweetie. Everyday of my life i thought about you. I pictured you sweet sixteen, your graduation, you getting your license, all of it. I just couldn't stay or else i would have gone back"
"Back where?"
"That's not important but what is important is helping you to figure out your gift and help you to cross spirits over into the light"
Sapphire was on board with her moms plan when her phone started to ring. She looked at the caller ID and noticed it was Luke calling. He has called about 3 times since Sapphire left the house this morning.
"Who's Luke?" her mom asked
"He's my boyfriend"
"Wow how long have you been dating?"
"Well technically our one year was the other day but a while back we broke up for a few weeks because he travels a lot and it got hard being apart"
"Well he must be something special"
"He really is, and if you play your cards right maybe you can meet him sometime"
"I'd really like that"
