I was a child

"Girls put your plates on the side before you go play" Betty instructed as she wiped down the kitchen counters, smiling when her two daughters stacked their plastic pink plates next to the sink.

"Thank you!" she spoke, kissing both their heads before the two girls sprinted down the hallway. She chuckled quietly to herself, running a hand through her blonde locks for a moment before she began to load up the dishwasher. The blonde's usual household chores were interrupted by the doorbell, her assuming it couldn't be Jughead as he wouldn't need to ring the bell. She put two mugs away before making her way to the front door, turning the lock before opening it to see someone she would have never expected. Betty had only seen her in pictures, old ones bearing in mind, when Jughead was very young. He had none of/with her past the age of 10, but she still recognised the features of the woman.

"Mrs Jones?" she asked in shock, keeping the door slightly closed just in case. She knew Jughead's mother wasn't exactly dangerous, but she definitely wasn't innocent.

"You must be the infamous Betty" the woman offered a warm smile, holding out her hand. Betty shook it with a skeptical gaze, clearly nervous in her presence.

"No need to look so afraid, I'm just here to see my son" she assured, noticing Betty's immediate discomfort.

"He's not home right now, but he will be soon. You could...well you could wait inside?" she suggested hesitantly, not knowing if it was the best idea but she felt bad turning her away. Betty was a people pleaser, it was an instinct to make a good impression- something she definitely inherited from Alice Cooper. Betty led her through the house, sitting down at the kitchen table where her daughters had just eaten dinner.

"It's lovely to finally meet you, FP has mentioned you a few times. Jughead would never say much over the phone" Gladys chuckled.

"It's nice to meet you too, seems like its taken a while" Betty chuckled awkwardly in response, trying to stay polite. She knew Gladys had every opportunity to reach out, she just never did.

"Well life gets away with us all" the woman shrugged, ignoring Betty's displeased look with her excuse. The two made little to no conversation for the next 20 or so minutes, barely trying to get to know each other. Just when Betty was about to speak, she heard a car pull up outside and the lights shine through their front window.

"He's home" she spoke simply, hearing pattering footsteps down the stairs as the door opened wide.

"Daddy!" both Liv and Riley giggled, hugging Jughead's legs as soon as he entered the house.

"Woah, hey munchkins" he laughed, placing his stuff down before he crouched down and hugged them both "Where's mummy?"

"In the kitchen" Olivia smiled with her two front teeth, rocking back and forth on her tip-toes. He lifted Riley up in his arms, the younger of the two sisters, brushing her hair back as he walked  to greet his wife. The man stopped short in the doorway when he saw Betty sat with the one woman that he wanted to wipe from his memory. "Jughead, hi"

"What the hell are you doing here?" he asked coldly, holding Riley tight in his arms.

"I wanted to come see you" Gladys explained, standing up from her chair as he scoffed in response.

"Get out of my house" he replied angrily, teeth grinding as he tried to stay calm in front of the girls.

"Jug, please don't do this in front of the kids" Betty reminded, shaking her head at him.

"You let her in? When you knew everything? You let her in the same damn house as our daughters?" he turned to Betty, the rage of seeing his mother again taking over.
