"Go play Danny, dinner will be ready soon" Betty spoke to her son, ruffling his raven hair. He giggled and ran off to his toy car set that his grandpa had bought him for Christmas, making engine sounds as he drove them around the track.

Betty hummed softly to herself as she stirred the pasta sauce, checking the time for her husband to come home. All of a sudden she heard a smash from the dining room, freezing still and turning her head to peer in. Before she could investigate an arm hooked around her neck causing a scream to leave her lips.

"Shut your mouth before I shut it for you" the man growled as two other men wearing black ski masks started pulling draws open. Betty sobbed in fear, her body shaking "Boss, she's got a kid here" one man notified.

"Bring him over" he spoke calmly. "No please don't hurt him!" she screamed, struggling in the man's arms but his grip was too tight. They brought Daniel in who was now looking up at his mother in fear "Mummy who are the scawwy men?"

"Don't worry baby just do as your told okay" she spoke, forcing a smile on her face though her tears still poured.

"Nothing here boss" one man muttered. "Go upstairs, anything of value grab it" the tallest one instructed. The other two ran off like dogs being let off a leash, pulling draws open and looking through every cabinet.

"P-please just let me hold my son" Betty begged to the 'boss' as she squirmed in his arms.

"What do you take me for? Stupid? You'll go running as soon as you get free" he laughed shaking his head, the kind of laugh that sent shivers down her spine.

It felt like hours, watching her son stand in the doorway looking at her worriedly whilst she waited for them to ultimately steal anything they could. That was until they ran downstairs "We got what we could, not much boss"

"Useless idiots, come on we're out of here" he grumbled, letting go of Betty and running out. Betty let out a sob falling to the floor, her neck now bruised from the tight grip as Daniel ran over to her.

"Mummy no cry!" he shook his head, hugging her tightly. She wrapped her arms around him tightly one hand on his curly hair, kissing his head over and over. "I'm okay baby, I promise" she assured, wiping her tears. She picked him up and placed him down on the sofa. "Mummy needs to make a call bub, I'll be back" she explained, kissing his forehead before turning the TV on for him.

She called the police and explained everything to them, trying to give a description of the clothing but she had nothing about the faces. Once she ended the call her body fell to the floor again, crying quietly as to not alert her unknowing son.

The front door unlocked, Jughead walking in and dumping his things down by the shoe rack.  Daniel jumped up and ran to the door.

"How's my little man?" Jughead grinned, picking his son up.

"Train!" he giggled, shoving the train in his father's face.

"Wow bud, why don't you go put it on the track" he suggested with a fake gasp. Daniel nodded and squirmed out of his arms, running back to his toys. Jughead chuckled and walked to the kitchen, not seeing Betty at first but heard quiet cries. He frowned and walked through, seeing her sat on the floor leaning against a cabinet. He quickly took off his jacket and ran over, kneeling down.

"Betts? Love what's wrong?" he asked worriedly, pulling her hands away from her face gently.

"Th-These p-people came and...and they.." she stammered, looking up at him through her tears. Jughead only grew more worried, sitting down next to her and pulling her onto his lap.

"They broke in Juggie, he held me and they took things. I don't know w-what they took" she cried.

"Fuck...do you know who they were honey?" he asked, his arms wrapping around her protectively.

"N-no I told the police, they're coming round to question and look around. I couldn't even get to Danny in time, he had to stand here and w-watch it" she choked out.

"Hey just slow down Betts, this isn't your fault okay? Danny's fine, he's playing with his trains like nothings happened" Jughead assured, pressing kisses to her temples.

"We'll talk to the police and they'll help us okay, and we can ask how to protect ourselves from this" he whispered, running his hand through her blonde waves "I love you Betts, I won't let either you or Danny go through that again"

She nuzzled her face in his chest, him picking her up all of a sudden and carrying her over to the sofa. "Daniel, why don't you show mummy your trains whilst I finish off dinner?" he asked.

"Yeah yeah! Mummy come build new track with me!" he spoke excitedly. Betty gave Jughead a grateful smile, walking over and picking her son up kissing his cheek.

He squealed as she sat him on her lap "Come on then little train conductor, tell me what I need to do" she grinned.

Jughead stood in the doorway watching his two favourite people playing with the trains, Betty making train engine sounds whilst she tickled Daniel's sides making him squeal. He walked to the kitchen seeing the pasta sauce was simmering so just had to boil the pasta.

"Dinners ready!" he called out, his wife soon walking in with Daniel on her back making train engine noises.

"Mummy train!" he giggled, clinging to her shoulders. Jughead chuckled as she put him down in his chair and then sat down in her usual seat.

"Thank you Juggie" she smiled, kissing his cheek as he sat down. "No problem Betts, you feeling okay?" he asked quietly.

"Better, a lot better now" she nodded before starting to eat her pasta. Jughead smiled taking her hand in his, giving it a light squeeze. Sure they were both scared, and they'd spend the next few months looking over their shoulder in fear. That was obvious by now, but as long as they had their little boy safe in their arms they knew they could get through this.
