Set when Hiram put the town into quarantine, but it doesn't follow any of the other storylines and bughead are broken up. The song that inspired me to write this is above(:
It was official, Hiram Lodge had put the town into an immediate quarantine. No one could get out, no one could get in. His power hungry mind had become so twisted as to isolate the town of Riverdale from the outside world.
Betty curled up on the sofa under a fluffy blanket, staring at the tv screen that aired the terrifying news. "Under management of Governor Dooley, we have decided Riverdale must effectively go into quarantine. I can assure citizens are secure here, but no one will be able to return just yet. There's a brighter future ahead of us" the head of the Lodge family explained. Betty gritted her teeth in anger, curling her fists to help calm herself. Alice and Polly were officially stuck at the border of the town, not having any way of getting back in. She was all alone.
Even Betty could admit she was scared, who wouldn't be? With Hiram in charge who knows how long her beloved town would last before it came crumbling down. She had already lost so much and now her family were torn from her grip with no warning. She needed her anchor.
"I guess Hiram really does have the upper hand" FP sighed as he watched the latest update, his son perched on the armrest next to him.
"I thought maybe we'd finally won against him" Jughead mumbled, tugging at the edges of his beanie as he looked over at his father. He counted himself lucky to have his dad with him during this isolation, knowing some parents had otherwise unfortunate circumstances.
"Have you spoken to Betty?" FP asked warily, knowing it was a sore subject to say the least. He only got a shake of the head in response, watching his son gulp back whatever response he wanted to give. They had broken up only two weeks ago and ever since his boy seemed to be lost, out of place. He needed his anchor.
As if on queue, Jughead's ringtone sounded through the musty trailer. He raised an eyebrow grabbing it, Betty's ID appearing on the screen. After a moment of hesitation he swiped right, walking away from his father. "Betty...hey"
"Have you seen the news?" she asked abruptly, skipping the small talk. He held back a chuckle at her direct nature as he fell back onto his bed.
"Yeah, it's pretty bad. I wish we could've stopped him" he sighed, wrapping a finger around a raven curl before releasing it.
"My mum and Polly are stuck at the border Jug" she whispered, causing Jughead to quickly sit up.
"Shit Betts I'm so sorry, are you alone?" he asked, worry spreading across his face as well as his heart.
"Yeah, I'm sorry for calling I'm just scared. I don't want to be alone" she sniffled, pulling her blanket tighter around her.
"Do...do you want me to come over?" he suggested, not caring about the break up at this point. All he cared about was that she was alone; giving any of Hiram's minions an advantage to mess with her especially when she had taken part in the attempt to take him down.
"Yes please" she nodded though he couldn't see the gesture, rustling sounds echoing through the phone as he shuffled around his room.
"I'll be there soon" he replied shortly after, hanging up and dropping his phone onto the bed. With a quick explanation to his dad, the worried boy was out of the door in a matter of minutes; set on getting to her as soon as he could.
Meanwhile, Betty paced around upstairs grabbing a towel and some comfy clothes to place in the bathroom. The taps were running a mixture of hot and cold into the cream bath tub, a pink fizzing bath bomb floating around. She dipped her toe into the hot water, soon fully emerging herself into it apart from her head. The steam relaxed her muscles, partially clearing her mind for even just a few moments of peace. Around 20 minutes later she heard the door open and a voice call out "Betty?"
"I'm in the bath! Be down in 5!" she replied, stepping out of the tub and wrapping her body in a towel. She soon dried off and changed into a hoodie paired with some sweats, brushing out her damp blonde locks. She ran downstairs looking around for him, moving to the kitchen where she saw two Pop's takeaway bags and a familiar boy.
"Hey...I thought I'd grab us some Pop's on the way. Comfort food always helps" he chuckled softly, giving her a shy smile.
"Thanks" she smiled not sure how to act around him as of now, both teenagers moving to the sofa where they sat under blankets stuffing their faces. It was silent, not awkward but not as comfortable as usual.
"Kinda feels like the world is ending huh?" he remarked after a while, casually taking a bite of his second burger.
"That's one way to look at it" she sniggered, shaking her head at his extreme view of life. She received a goofy grin in response, something that always made her heart burst. "Thank you for coming over, I know it isn't exactly ideal"
"Eating Pop's on the sofa with my ex whilst our friend's dad turns our town into an apocalyptic safe zone? Nah sounds perfect to me" he joked, earning a playful hit on the arm.
"Jug I'm being serious, thank you" she giggled, sipping her vanilla milkshake.
"It's okay, I didn't want you to be alone" he nodded taking his beanie off, only ever doing that around her. She admired his ability to be vulnerable around her, even though they were no longer together. They eventually decided to watch some movies, taking their minds off of the red sirens that flashed throughout the streets. People were already trying to leave resulting in violence and arrests from guards, Betty and Jughead so worried that they ended up in each others arms as they stared at the TV screen.
"I'm not leaving, you're not alone" Jughead whispered when Betty jumped, another loud siren setting off. She buried her face in his chest, her focus taken off of the crime documentary they had put on. It didn't matter that they were broken up anymore, they needed each other.
"What does this mean for us?" she murmured, not able to stop her mind from wondering why they were doing this after what had happened.
"That's for us to worry about tomorrow, right now I just want to do what you need" he replied, not sure what it meant either, only that they had a lot to work out.
"If the world was ending...this is how I would want to spend my last night. On the sofa with good food, movies...and you" she whispered the last part, snuggling closer as her eyes shut tiredly.
"If the world was ending I'd be here in seconds, holding you till the very last moment" he whispered, pressing his lips against her head as he brushed her hair back. He meant it, they both did.
