"You should be there Betts" Jughead whispered, fiddling with the flowers that he'd brought especially for her.

"It's not right. You'd love her, god you'd love her so much. She makes Luke so so happy" he murmured, tracing his fingers along the engraved letters of the granite stone "He looks at her the way I looked at you"

----

"Hey dad" the young boy spoke as he walked into the dressing room, his hair combed back and tie loose around his neck. Luke was the spitting image of his father with the same jet black curls and olive toned skin. The one thing he shared with his mother were her electric green eyes, brighter than any emerald in Jughead's mind.

"Hey, you feeling okay?" his father asked, looking up from his phone.

"Nervous" he chuckled "But um....I'm more worried about you. Archie told me you were at mum's grave this morning" he added in a whisper, scared to trigger an emotional outburst. Mentioning Betty was always a risk, everyone knew that. They saw the way the elder man's face would drop and his shoulders would sag, the life being drained out of him in every memory.

Jughead cursed Archie Andrews in his head, even when grown up he couldn't keep a damn secret. "Oh don't worry about silly old me, I'm fine. I was just putting flowers down" he shrugged it off, shaking his head in dismissal.

"I miss her too you know" Luke spoke, sitting down next to him "And I know you don't like talking about it but I want to talk about mum sometimes. I want to talk about how she can't be here for my own wedding" he sniffled, voice cracking.

Jughead looked over at him, lips twitching as he rested a hand on his son's shoulder "Hey you listen to me. She is here, I have no doubt in my mind that she's watching down on us today and every other day until we can see her again"

Luke nodded, wiping his eyes and clearing his throat "I wish I could talk to her and hug her, I could really do with her advice right now"

"Well I'll never be as good at that as your mum, but I can help son. I'll try" he offered.

"I'm just scared. You and mum always made it look so easy when you were together. When friend's of mine told me about their parents divorces I couldn't even imagine for a second what that would look like. You made it look like a walk in the park, but it doesn't feel like that for me. I'm scared I'm gonna say the wrong thing or forget a special day, or hurt her somehow. What if this isn't right and she falls out of love with me? What if her family decide they don't like me?" he rambled, shaky hands gripping at his knees.

"Woah slow down, take a breath Luke. You're just getting cold feet, like I did"

"You did?"

"Oh yeah massively" he chuckled at the memory "Your uncle Archie had to go find me round the back of the church because I was panicking. I was terrified to let someone else into my life that way, terrified she'd leave or her family would reject me. I mean, I was up against your grandmother"

Luke laughed, nodding along as he listened to his dad talk about his wedding day. This was the first time since Betty's death that he'd brought it up.

"You know when the nerves left and the fear completely vanished? When I saw your mother walking down the aisle. It all felt so right and things fell into place" he explained, a small smile imprinted on his pale lips. "I'm not saying we didn't argue, and I definitely messed up sometimes but it's the making up and the pushing through that made us work. If you can communicate and fight for each other, it'll all work out"

"Do you think I'm right for Mel?" he asked, though Jughead had approved of her the moment they met.

"I know she makes you happy and that you make her happy, that's all that matters. No one else's opinion should ruin that" he replied simply, echoing the same words that Betty had whispered to him on their honeymoon.

'You make me happy Juggie, I make you happy. No one else's opinion should matter to us'

"Thanks dad" he smiled, grateful he still had his father around to support him. "For talking about mum, I know its hard for you"

"I know I should talk about her more, it just hurts" he admitted. Both of them knew that was an understatement. It burned Jughead, it ripped his heart to pieces shred by shred, and threw it into embers of flaming red. Betty was his soulmate, his lifeline. She was the woman who taught him how to love again, and now his love was snatched from him.

"I get it" he nodded, the two men embracing each other tightly. He was so proud of Luke for becoming such a fine young man with good morals and the kindest heart. Jughead gave the credit to Betty for the last part, in fact for all of it.

Jughead sat in the front row, Archie on one side of him and an empty chair on the other. On that chair lay a bouquet of pink tulips and a framed photo. The beautiful blonde was giggling as she faced the camera, her hands covered in flour from baking as she swatted her husband for capturing photos. Luke had asked that this chair was left for his mother, sat by his father where she belonged. He wanted her to be there, even if it was in a different way.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride!" the officiator announced, everyone clapping as Luke brought his now-wife into a passionate kiss.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride!"

Jughead pulled Betty in by the small of her back, dipping her as he kissed her with all the love he had.

"I love you so much" she whispered, her infectious giggle falling from her lips when he grabbed her hand and ran down the aisle with her. Away to their own wonderland honeymoon.

A tear trailed down Jughead's cheek as he clapped, his head turning to the chair beside him "We did good Betts"
