Chapter 55: Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Maine put down the brush, her attention caught by the sparkle that the diamond gave against the lights on the vanity dresser. She stretched her hand before her to admire it. She smiled to herself because instead of wearing it on her ring finger, she wore her engagement ring on her middle finger. She caressed it tenderly.

"I promise. We will get that resized as soon as possible. I've already called the jeweler and he said that he'll be available only after the holiday season." RJ said, standing behind her.

Maine looked him in the mirror. "It doesn't matter when we get it resized. I'd still marry you with or without an engagement ring." Patting his hand on her shoulders.

He reached for her brush and Maine followed him with her eyes. "May I?"

Maine nodded; her eyes alive with the dawning of understanding of what he wanted to do.

"Have you done this before?" she asked, thinking may be one of his previous girls had a fetish for this.

"No. You're the first and the last woman I'm going to do this for." He said as he gently but firmly ran the brush through her long tresses.

'The first and the last,' she liked the sound of that.

"Unless we have a daughter soon.." he bent and whispered into her ear.

Maine blushed.

"There. All set." He straightened back up again as he looked at her reflection in the mirror. He frowned. Something was missing.

She noticed his frown. "Is there something wrong?"

"Wait here." he said and dashed out the room.

~~Downstairs at the formal dining room~~

The buffet table had been set with the luncheon feast for the household staff's pre- Christmas party. It has become the tradition in the Fullerton household to hold two Christmas feasts for the household staff, an early one for the staff who would be taking a holiday leave to be with their own family in their own provinces, and another one for the Fullertons and the rest of the staff who would be staying behind.

At the opposite end of the dining room, a slightly raised dais was fitted with a table that was usually used by the Fullertons. The table was still set for three but this time, it was set with the young Sir, the young Madam and the little one in mind, with his high chair placed in between his parents' seats.

Butler Walter surveyed the room and sighed in contentment. His supervision was as always,  superb. The señorito would surely approve of the motif of a blue and white Christmas. To match the motif, each table had a frosted blue glass candleholder placed in a circular holly as centerpieces. He sprayed the pine fresh air freshener to add to the mood. All that is missing is the young family.

~~Maine's room~~

"Here is what is missing." He said as he laid the sapphire and diamond necklace against her.

"RJ," was all that she could say in breathless wonder.

"Perfect!" as he closed the necklace's clasp at her nape. His eyes were glittering as he took in her beauty reflected in the mirror.

"Where did you get this on such short notice?" She asked when she found her voice back, knowing that he couldn't have bought it since they kept each other company the whole day.
