Chapter 39: Home Sweet Home~~On the way to Fullerton Mansion~~
"RJ, can you drop us by The Shangri-La at The Fort?" Maine asked softly.
"What for?" RJ asked back.
"That's where we plan to stay," Maine stated flatly, looking him in the eyes.
"You will do no such thing. You and my son will stay at the mansion," RJ said, his possessiveness coming out in the way he enunciated every syllable.
"But RJ, what will your staff think?" Maine argued.
"I don't care what they think. They're not paid to gossip. They know the consequences of rumor mongering in my household," RJ said as a matter of fact.
"RJ, it won't be proper," Maine contended.
"Maine look, so far, nothing between us can be called proper, so why worry about it now?" RJ countered with an eyebrow raised. "I think that you and Sebastian living under the same roof with me would be the first proper thing that we would be doing in this relationship of ours," RJ countered, hoping to put an end to their discussion, which he thought was rubbish.
"But . . .," Maine started to retort back.
"No more buts Maine," RJ said cutting her short, effectively putting an end to their discussion.
"Who do you think you are to decide what I can and cannot do?" Maine burst out at him, piqued at how he had decided for her without even hearing her out.
"For one, I'm the father of your son. Anything that concerns him, concerns me too," RJ burst out as well.
"All this concern for a son you didn't even know existed until a few days ago!" Maine said incredulously, not quite believing the quick change of his priorities.
"And whose fault was it that I only knew of my son a few days ago?!" RJ answered back, his eyes a blaze with resentment that was held in check.
Maine silently stared back at him, wide eyed and taken aback at the sting that his last words brought her. Maine held Sebastian closer to her, making him a shield against the onslaught of emotions that was uncoiling inside her.
'RJ, is it my fault that I love you so much that I chose to give you your freedom than burden you with an unwanted pregnancy?' she asked herself as she furiously blinked back tears that threatened to spill.
RJ wanted to kick himself. Hard. Why was he such a jerk when it comes to Maine? Wasn't he the one that rejected her from before? Maybe it was her taking revenge when she left him the last time. And he still expected her to run to him to tell me him that she was pregnant.
'Man, put yourself in her shoes. Would you tell someone who said nothing about having a relationship that you're pregnant with his child and run the risk of being rejected again?' RJ chided himself. 'I guess not,' RJ said, answering his own question. 'Then there you have it. Now stop being a jerk and apologize,' his conscience prodded at him.
RJ turned to look at Maine. When he saw her furiously blinking back her tears, he felt his heart constrict in pain. 'What are you waiting for?' his conscience asked him. Apologize now, it dictated.
"Maine," RJ started. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way. Believe me, I understand why you don't want to stay with me but please, for the sake of our son, let's put aside our differences, even for just for the holidays. Let him have a whole family, a mother and a father together for his first Christmas," RJ pleaded, his voice cracking as he said his last words for he remembered his own Christmases without his father.
