Chapter 26: Dead Ringer~~Ray's Office, 3pm~~
Ray was calling Maine's office over the phone. "Glizelle, may I speak with Maine please?"
"Sorry Mr. Tesoro, but Miss Mendoza is not in right now."
"Do you know where she is?"
"She went down to the creche a few minutes ago. Would you like to leave a message for her sir?"
"No. I'll just follow her there. Thanks Zelle," putting the phone down.
~~Kanga-Care, office Crèche~~
As Ray pushed open the double doors of the office's newly installed daycare, the piped in instrumental music of a medley of nursery rhymes greeted him. Ray looked around the receiving area and smiled. It felt like he wasn't in the office because of the splash of bright colors and adorable cartoon and fairy tale characters that adorned the walls of the daycare center.
Sensing that someone was observing him from behind, he turned around and his gaze fell upon a face with almond shaped eyes framed by winged eyebrows, hidden beneath spectacles that were too large for her oval face. The woman who owned the beautiful eyes kept on pushing her glasses up her petite nose, while alternately biting her bow shaped lips as Ray continued to stare at her.
Alexa raised her hand to place back some hair that fell from her chignon. 'Sir, is there something wrong?"
Ray, realizing that he was staring. "I'm sorry. No, there is nothing wrong. I was actually staring at Pride Rock," he said, trying to cover up for his staring.
"Pride Rock?"
Ray pointed to the scene behind her taken from Lion King. The seat of Simba's kingdom.
Alexa smiled to herself. This is new. A man who knows his cartoons. "Oh! that Pride Rock!"
"I wasn't aware that there was any other."
"That scene is just one of the numerous scene that are painted on the walls of this daycare center. Most are taken from Disney and Warner Bros. Are you here to see your child?"
Ray looked at her nametag. "As a matter of fact, Alexa I'm here to see a friend. I believe she went down here a few minutes ago to see her son, Sebastian."
Alexa released a pent up breath. 'What's wrong with me? He is not that good-looking! Why do I feel so relieved that he is here for a friend not a child?'
Ray called out her name to get a response from her. "Alexa? Earth to Alexa." Snapping out of her thoughts.
"Sir, I'm sorry I spaced out. How did you know my name?"
Ray pointed. "Nametag."
She smiled sheepishly. "Oh, yeah." Looking at the clipboard she carried, she scanned the list of names and found what she was looking for. "This way sir, Ms. Mendoza and her baby are at the mother's lounge right now."
Ray allowed her take the lead and he sure enjoyed it. He sent a silent thanks to whoever thought of the daycare staff's uniform, which consisted of khaki shorts, collared pastel shirt and a pair of white sneakers. The shorts made Alexa legs looked longer, although the shirt didn't reveal much of her figure; it gave a hint of a full breast and flat abdomen. He continued to follow her but was lost in his thoughts. As he comprehended his thoughts direction, he gave a soft chuckle.
