Gwyn looked down to check again if she had packed everything.
Clothes, bracelet supplies, and her necklace.
The former was of new importance to her. The beautiful gold necklace fashioned with a small rose charm.
She had never been given a gift so simple and beautiful. She wore it every day. For some reason she could not bear to take it off. She had not known who it came from.
Gwyn finished packing and left her room to venture down to the house of wind.
She took a few deep breaths as she stepped out of the library. That had become a routine since leaving.
The only two places she had grown truly accustomed to were the library, and the training room in the house of wind. And she was not going to either of those today.
As anxiety prickled at her skin Gwyn continued to take deep breaths.
What if something went wrong? What if Nesta or Emerie were hurt? What if—
"Don't be a little bitch—
"I swear to the mother Nesta if you make me wear that tomorrow—
"Why, don't want your girlfriend to see?"
Gwyn smiled at her two friends, content to watch this play out.
They were ok. They were safe. So Gwyn took a deep breath and walked into the room.
"Gwyn, hey," Nesta smiled, "your just in time, I was going to make Emerie try on—
"Nope, she actually wasn't about to do anything," Emerie silenced Nesta who just rolled her eyes.
"How was your day," Emerie flopped down on the couch and both Nesta and Gwyn followed.
"Fine. Merrill was not pleasing this morning. She made me go to almost every level searching for one book," Gwyn sighed.
She spent most of her afternoon walking up stairs, and that was after training this morning. To say her legs ached would be an understatement.
"But I don't want to talk about her," Gwyn smiled at Nesta, "how are you doing?"
"Fine," she dragged out the word.
"Is it really that hard to spend one night without Cassian?" Emerie teased.
Nesta flipped her off, "he is my mate so yes being apart from him doesn't feel... right."
"Yes, yes. We get it Nes you are in a relationship," Gwyn sighed, sinking more into the pillows of the couch.
"Are you Jealous Gwyn?" Nesta turned to her smirking.
"No, definitely not. Thanks to both of you, I have enough romance books to never be jealous of anyone else's relationships," Gwyn snorted.
"Speaking of," Emerie pulled a book out of her bag and threw it at Gwyn.
"Thanks," Gwyn caught the book before it hit her face.
"Well, we're all here," Nesta stood up, "anyone else want cake?"
—---------------
"I still can't believe you are getting mated tomorrow," Emrie shoved a forkful of cake into her mouth.
"I can, they have been fucking for like a year."
"Gwyn!" Nesta and Emerie's eyes widened at the blatant comment.
It took Gwyn a moment to realize what she said.
"It's the books," Nesta said, and Emrie nodded in agreement. Gwyn snorted. Her vocabulary had become much broader since reading romance. She didn't know if it was a good thing.
"So right now, how are you feeling?"
"Gwyn you just asked me that like an hour ago—
"Yes and it is an hour later so..." she trailed off looking into her friend's blue-gray eyes.
Gwyn loved Nesta's eyes. They were scary as hell, but there is something about scary things that intrigued Gwyn. they made her want to keep looking into them.
"I'm feeling good, fine... nervous, but fine," she took another bite of her cake.
"That was the lamest thing I have ever heard," Emerie scrunched her brows, "you are getting mated to the love of your life, and you feel fine?"
"Yeah that is very underwhelming," they all jumped at the sound of Cassian's voice.
Gwyn smiled at the illyrian warrior in the doorway.
"What are you doing here?" Nesta got up to walk over to the door leaving her cake unguarded, "you were the one who told me we shouldn't see each other before tomorrow–
"I know, I just wanted to see you," Gwyn watched him lean down a press a chaste kiss to her lips.
Emerie picked up Nesta's plate and split the cake, giving half to Gwyn and eating the other half herself.
Gwyn started eating again when Cassian wrapped his arms around Nesta and kissed her again. More deeply this time.
"Wow, you guys are really adorable together," Emerie yelled over a bite of cake.
Cassian just continued to kiss Nesta, as he flipped off Emrie.
Finally after what felt like a year they stopped kissing.
Gwyn wondered if they could even breath kissing like that.
"Don't stay up too late," Cassian looked at all of them, "I don't want Nes falling over walking Down the aisle, so get some sleep."
"Thanks dad," Gwyn muttered, finishing off her cake.
"No problem kiddo," Cassian winked at her then turned to Nesta, "I'll see you tomorrow?"
Nesta just nodded looking at him intensely.
Gwyn thought she should look away at all the love shown in Nesta's eyes. It seemed to be something only her and Cassian shared.
Gwyn turned to Emerie, and watched as she stuffed yet another piece of cake into her mouth. Gwyn wondered if Emerie would ever experience that kind of love— if she herself would.
Gwyn let the thought dwell in her mind for only a moment longer, then brushed it aside.
Love was vital, but Gwyn already had enough love from Emerie and Nesta. She could want nothing more.
