The minute she heard the scream Jo instantly said into the phone "I'm sorry I have to go!" before hanging up. She took off into a dead sprint running she hurdled over the couch before taking the stairs three at a time. She burst into the room seeing Lizzie looking down tears streaking down her face "Lizzie?!"
"Jo. I think I need to go to the hospital." Lizzie said in shock
Jo ran to her wife freezing when she saw the bed. Bile rose in her throat but she quickly swallowed in taking Lizzie into her arms she ran downstairs before nearly breaking the door off of its hinges as she opened the door. She reached out taking hold of a particular key she placed Lizzie into the Aston Martin DB11. Lizzie was too in shock to notice her wife tearing out of the driveway going over 100 mph. Jo called out to the car "Call 911!"
"911 how can we be of assistance today?"
"Hello! Yes! I believe my wife is having a miscarriage-"
"Where are you, ma'am?"
"I am on... headed westbound to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center."
"Ma'am we will have an ambulance meet you."
"No. I am going 165mph in a 2017 Aston Martin DB11 color gray. License plate number 2 Juliet, Hotel, Oscar, 283. If I am stopped there will be hell."
"Ma'am I am sending police now to ensure safe arrival for all parties."
The car came to a screeching halt in front of the ER doors. Jo ran around the car pulling Lizzie into her arms before running inside. "Help! I need help!"
A gurney was quickly placed under Lizzie and the two were wheeled into a private room. A doctor came in an ultrasound machine following quickly behind them. Lizzie quickly lifted her shirt but the Doctor stopped her "We are going to have to go vaginally. Lizzie nodded as Jo stood up by her head. Both Jo's hands were wrapped around Lizzies as she eagerly waited to hear the fate of their child. The Doctor spoke to them but they were both too shocked to hear. Until they heard the fast-paced pitter-patter of their baby's heartbeat they both let out a sob.
Jo collapsed her head resting on Lizzies upper abdomen terrified they had lost their tiny human. They heard the Doctor say, "Both babies are doing perfectly." Jo kissed Lizzies head before they both looked at the doctor wide-eyed saying simultaneously
"BOTH!"
She smiled "Yes. Both. You two are having twins."
Jo looked over at Lizzie a big smile on her face "Babies."
Lizzie smiled tears streaking down her face "Babies!"
They looked at the grainy image as the Doctor pointed out where their unborn babies rested safe and sound in Lizzies womb. "I believe what happened today was a shift what was one placenta is now two so that bleeding was just the final separation."
"So the babies are okay?" Jo asked
"Yes." the doctor smiled "Neither baby was in danger but I know it doesn't look like that so you did the right thing coming in."
"They are okay," Lizzie repeated
"Yes. They are in no danger from what I see. Both seated safely in that belly of yours. Take your time. I'm going to write up some discharge paper but stay as long as you need."
"Do we need to do anything?" Jo asked
"Just take things slow. You should be able to return to normalcy as soon as your out of here but I know this can be traumatic."
Once the doctor left the room Jo took hold of the sonogram pictures letting her thumb rub over each baby. Lizzie looked up at her affectionately before sighing "You are so dead."
Jo laughed beside her before leaning down kissing her before moving to place two kisses on Lizzies lower belly "That about killed me."
Lizzie still had tears in her eyes "I thought we had lo-"
"Me too."
"I've never been so scared. I didn't think I could love something this much but I love these babies so much already and just the thought." She was stopped by the tears streaking down.
Jo cupped her face "It's okay. They are safe. I love them too."
When they arrived home Jo guided Lizzie to the couch "Take me to the bedroom."
"Let me clean up the-" Jo swallowed the lump in her throat "-blood."
Realization struck Lizzie and she nodded afraid of she spoke her voice would betray her, She turned her head away from Jo biting her knuckle. Jo sat behind her kissing the back of her neck "They are safe. You are safe. Let me switch out the bedding and we can cuddle."
"Okay," Lizzie said quietly
Jo stood reluctantly walking out of the living room and up the stairs. The minute her eyes settle on the red stain all she could do was cry silent tears taking the time to digest how she truly felt as she worked quickly and diligently taking the sheets off placing them in a trash bag before putting the new one on. She walked downstairs throwing away the bag before taking Lizzies hand leading her to their master.
That night the two cuddled in bed neither wanting to leave the other arms. Jo kept a hand on Lizzies belly as they watch GOT. Jo would randomly rub her thumb on Lizzies smooth skin or kiss any part of flesh she could reach making Lizzie smile. Lizzie got a text looking down before groaning "We have that family thing tomorrow for the 4th."
Jo kissed the back of her head "We could say we are sick if you don't want to go."
"I want to go."
"Are you sure? You had a pretty intense day."
"I do. Babies are healthy. I'm healthy."
"Okay," Jo said unsure
Lizzie kissed her chin laughing "You just don't want to tell my parents you got their little girl pregnant."
Jo's hand stopped rubbing Lizzies belly. Lizzie looked up to see Jo visibly pale at the realization. Lizzie laughed kissing Jo's chin before relaxing into her arms absolutely exhausted from today's events.
A/N: There is not really a condition that will allow that much blood and not a miscarriage so I made something up.
Are you still mad at me?
