Jo rolled out of bed to the noise of Lizzie throwing up once again. Jo walked slowly into the bathroom doing what she had done almost every hour like clockwork that night she knelt down holding Lizzies hair before kissing her neck and whispering every word she could think of to tell Lizzie just how strong and incredible she was. Lizzie collapsed back into Jo's arms exhausted. Jo just held Lizzie wrapping her arms around her. "Whoever named it morning sickness has no concept of time."
Jo laughed gently before kissing Lizzies ear. "I'm sorry baby."
"It's mmm kay," Lizzie said already nearly asleep. Somehow Jo found a way to stand Lizzie in her arms before caring Lizzie back to bed. She laid Lizzie on the bed tucking her in. Jo kissed her head before putting a trash can beside her "Where ya goin?" Lizzie asked her voice full of sleep.
"I have to get ready for work."
Jo went about getting ready as Lizzie slept. Forty-five minutes later Jo was back by Lizzies side kissing her goodbye. "Goodbye, my loves."
"No," Lizzie whined
"I can stay."
"No, you need to go." Lizzie said a little more awake "Baby has to go to college."
Jo smiled. Lizzie cracked her eyes. That smile. That sweet, sweet smile got her every time. The sun was peaking through the window giving Jo a halo effect. Her angel. "We both know I don't need to work for our baby to go to college."
"I know but you need to work. You'll go crazy."
"Not when I'm with you."
Lizzie gave her an unimpressed look, to say the least, "Go. Go do what you love. Baby and I will be just fine."
"You have today off?"
"I called in sick."
"Smart girl." Jo kissed her temple
Lizzie smiled "If your child didn't make me puke every hour I could work too."
"We both know you don't have to work." The look Lizzie gave her made her pale "I-I didn't mean it like that." Jo stammered "I-I'm gonna go." she pointed her thumbs to the door.
Lizzie raised her brow "Mmhmm." before clearing her throat "Kiss me."
Jo smiled holding her hands out taking Lizzies face in hand before kissing her "You call me if you need me. I'll come home in a second." Jo called as she started walking towards the bedroom door
Lizzie rolled her eyes a smile on her face "You aren't my mother."
"No, but I am that baby's in your belly."
"I'll call."
"I love you two."
"We love you."
At lunch, Jo went home to check on Lizzie. She parked her car in the garage before walking up the small flight gently opening the door. She walked through the mudroom and into the kitchen before walking into the Livingroom where she could see Lizzies hair hanging over the couch. She walked around the couch with a gentle smile on her face when she saw Lizzie sound asleep one hand on a sleeping Red the other on her lower belly. Jo smiled leaning down kissing Lizzie before kissing Red and the hand on Lizzies belly. Lizzie opened her eyes a smile on her face. "What are you doing here?"
"Cant I eat with my best girls?"
Lizzie said "You can eat... outside... I cant-"
Jo brushed Lizzies bangs away from her face "Shh don't think about it. I already ate anyway."
"Than why would you-?"
"I'm here to make sure you eat." She held up a bag "I called the doctor and got some nausea meds you also got some ginger ale and ginger tea we have some graham crackers and saltines just because I don't know what you can handle." Jo looked away from the bag to see Lizzie looking at her, tears in her eyes, "What?! What is it?"
"It's you." Lizzie laughed tears in her eyes
"What? What is it?" Jo frantically asked before patting herself. She smacked her stitched lip making her grimace "Is it my lip? Is it making you sick?"
Lizzie put her hand on Jo's face to slow her words "It's nothing like that."
"What is it?"
"You are very sweet and I am very hormonal."
"Oh," Jo said slowly holding her mouth in the O as she relaxed
Lizzie took a deep breath pushing the snot back into her nose sitting up "Let's make some tea aye?"
Jo smiled helping her to her feet.
That night the two laid on the couch watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Lizzie was pressed into Jo as the two snuggled. Every now and then Lizzie would feel the vibrations from Jo's laughter and vice versa. Lizzie laid her head back onto Jo's shoulder pressing her cheek against Jo's chin. Jo tilted her head down "Are you okay?"
"Mhmm, I'm just tired."
"Sleep," Jo said gently
After the show was done Jo turned off the TV just enjoying the feeling of Lizzie in her arms. the way they fit together, the weight on her chest, a weight she knew would only grow. Jo once again found herself carrying Lizzie to bed. Once Lizzie was settled Jo walked back downstairs doing what she could to straighten the house. She cleaned the dishes not wanting to be the reason Lizzie throws up first thing in the morning. She then proceeded to prep the kitchen for tomorrow morning's ginger tea and coffee before giving the house one last look over before climbing the stairs to join her wife in bed. A simple day it may have been but to Jo moments like this meant everything. She was home right there with Lizzie and their unborn child in her arms.
