Captain my Captain

"Welcome back! We are continuing this conversation with Lizzie by asking her about the boy that brought the couple together and ultimately leads to you guys getting married. Is that right?"

Lizzie laughed "If I am thinking about who you are thinking about then yes."

"I am talking about Captain."

Lizzie laughed, "Yeah that's what I was thinking."

"So who was Captain?"

"Captain was Jo's golden retriever who passed away shortly after we started dating."

"So why does everyone know Captain?"

"Captain was gorgeous and so sweet. He came to work with Jo every day and he just kind of had this way of knowing what was needed.-"

"Did he ever make you guys have to reshoot a scene because of him?"

"No! Never! He always kind of knew he was supposed to sit beside Jo and stay there until the director yells cut. Then if Jo released him he would go find somebody."

"Who would he find the most? Probably RDJ or Scarlett just because he had been around them the longest than me when I joined the group."

"When did she get him?"

"From 2009 to January 2015"

"So he was young when he passed?"

"He was 7. She rescued him when he was around a year old."

"What did he pass of?"

"He was diagnosed with cancer pretty early into our relationship. But that never slowed him down! He trotted into the set every day with a big stupid smile on his face. When I would come over or spend the night he would always lay on Jo but put his head on me." Lizzie started to sniffle "Gah I'm crying." She laughed "He started declining really fast. We had almost been together for a year and I was practically living at Jo's. I walked in and she was just crying the saddest silent tears sitting on the floor a whimpering captain in her lap." Lizzie took a deep breath "We were still shooting so I had to leave the following morning but the whole crew knew I would leave if something happened. It was around noon she called me saying it was getting really bad. So I went to her house. She was sitting on the bed with Captain in her lap. I came and sat behind her and just held both of them. He passed a few hours later and she just collapsed onto him. "

"Oh Lizzie I am so sorry."

She sniffled "No it is good to talk about him. The next morning we drove straight from LA to GA to bury him on her grandpa's property."

"How did he lead to you two getting married?"

Lizzie laughed "The first day of filming I was terrified. I remember walking into the table read and this Golden Retriever picked his head up looking at me. I walked over looking for his person and it was in fact this beautiful woman I met all those weeks ago. She asked 'do you want to pet him?' to which I responded 'may I?' and she smiled that bright smile 'please do! He loves it!' So I squatted down petting him, he got so excited and knocked me on my butt. Jo laughed 'Bad boy Captain!' but he was too busy assaulting me. Chris Evans walked up and was like 'Hey! He really likes you! He usually isn't so open with new people. I looked over at Jo with a big smile and she said 'He's a smart boy.'.-"

"That is so sweet!"

"Yeah, she is."

"So did she ask you out after that?"

"No actually I just started hanging out with Captain because he would usually come to find me. I remember this one time a few months into shooting I was sitting in my chair reviewing lines and here came Captain with a ball in his mouth. Jo was busy or something so I just hung out with him and threw his ball. I got tired and sat in the grass he came and laid beside me putting his big head on my knee before taking a nap. Jo came and sat beside me and that's when she asked me out."

"Thats when?"

"Yup! She says the way I loved Captain and the way I loved him lead to her wanting to marry me."

"What's your favorite memory with Captain?"

There are so many! He was a goofball. If Jo was on a floaty in the pool he would jump on her but if I was on a floaty he wouldn't but if Jo came to bug me he would bark he was just a funny dog. He loved looking in the mirror. " Lizzie laughed "My favorite memory was probably when I would walk into the trailer to see him and Jo asleep. I knew whenever he was with her they were same. I also loved when the three of us would sleep together but Jo would have to get up early so instead of Captain going with her he would stay with me and just cuddle."

"He sounds like he was amazing."

"You have no idea."

"You guys have another dog now right?"

"Yes! Her name is Red. She is a five-year-old fluff ball."

"Does she attach more to you or Jo?"

"Believe it or not but she's pretty even. It really depends on the situation. But she's a pretty fair girl."

"Do you think you will have another dog?"

"Right now? No! Too many little feet in the house."
