October 21st, day nine. Nine days Elizabeths wife has been on a ventilator. Unconscious and fighting for her life every minute. Today was a good day. She had seemed to be through the worst of it. Elizabeth was sitting in the study. As much as she loved all of her family she needed a minute alone, well as lone as you can get with two track stars in her uterus. Sitting in that large leather chair behind the oak desk that she sure weighed more than a small car brought her immense comfort. She would look across the room and see the chair she would sit in. She chose the chair because the couch wasn't as clear of a line of sight to the desk.
Jo would sit at the desk and work on her laptop her fingers fervently typing would often be the only sound only occasionally joined by Lizzie gently turning the page of a book. Lizzie leaned forward towards the desk to let her finger graze along the gentle scratch mark. A scratch that could be easily buffered away but neither had the heart to remove. On this desk, they signed their marriage certificate. Jo was so excited that when she swooshed off the last part of n in Olsen she scratched the wood. As Lizzie thought of that day a slight smile graced her lips. Her hands gingerly moved from the scratch down to the ornate detailing along the edge and legs before she finally moved to the long drawer that was right where you tuck your legs under the desk. She gently pulled it open her eyes being confronted by several papers. All of them were most certainly her wifes, the first paper she pulled out was just several scraps pieces of paper that Jo used to write MCU meeting notes. Under that was the paper that Jo brainstormed and later wrote her vows
Elizabeth,
You are like quicksand to me.
Let me explain. All my life I've been running afraid of what had been chasing me. But then I met you, the woman who made me stop running so quickly that I face-planted, head over heels in love with you. You are my lighthouse on the roughest seas and the calm within the roaring storms. Today I have the immense joy of standing in front of our friends and family and promise to tell you just how much I love you.
After our first date, I wrote a letter of four simple words and sent them to my grandpa. I have the letter here with me. It says...
"I've found the one."
Elizabeth Chase Olsen, I promise to always open the door for you., to sing to you the best love songs and Adele I can find, to cook with you, to hike with you, to go dancing in the rain with you because I know how much you hate it. I promise to respect you and support you, to help you when the world makes you anxious, to make you smile and laugh. I promise to try my hardest to make every dream and desire come true. Most of all I promise to love you forever.
She laughed as she read them seeing that her wife went slightly off-script on the day of to add things like food fights, sliding around in socks, and of course throwing her into the pool. As she dug through the papers two letters caught her eye and made her heart stop.
