They say that sometimes that life has to start off rough before it can become grand, I have learned that in the most difficult way possible during my teenage years. I can still remember that day when my grandpa received a piece of awful news.

Flashback

Another day, another spending the night over at my grandparent's house. Not that I hate it of course, in fact; I love it. It's certainly a lot better than staying inside an empty home since my parents are constantly at work and hardly ever at home. Sometimes they would know that I'm, sometimes they don't and today was one of those times.

"You are doing great dear," said my granny Grace, as they were observing me while mixing in some dough for a cake. There isn't much I know about Grace when it comes to personal life, especially her past life but that doesn't matter to me.

"You think so?"

"Of course I do dear. Keep this up then you will definitely make a name for yourself in the future."

I couldn't help but smile at her encouragement, she always believed that I could make it just by simply baking in the kitchen. My parents would constantly be breathing down my neck when it comes to careers, they would always be saying to me that I need to get a proper job but if I do that then my life would just be depressing. If I do wish to work, I want it to be in a place where I can enjoy and love; not in a boring ass bank or an office building, I don't even care if it pays well I'm not going to work in such places! I mean I get that they just want to be sure that I'll be provided for myself in life, but I just wish that they would think about what I want to do.

"I believe that's about it. Now let's get this dough in the baking tray," Grace had said as she passed me a tray when suddenly the sound of a ringing phone filled the house along with the voice of my grandpa.

"I'll get it!"

"Were you expecting someone to phone at this hour granny?"

"No dear, we weren't." We both didn't say anything as we were listening to grandpa talking over the phone when he suddenly raised his voice, which neither of us was expecting.

"What!?"

"Honey! What's wrong?!" Grace said as she ran out to see what was wrong. Little did I know that it was the phone call that completely changed my life.

It's been such a long time since that day. The day when my parents were killed in a hit and run when they were returning from work. At first, I didn't know what to think of the whole thing but when the funeral came I was very emotional. I had no idea what could happen now since I was an orphan but that didn't mean that I was alone, because my grandparents agreed to take me in and it's been that way ever since. I pulled myself out of high school and went straight to part-time jobs so that I could help out granny and grandpa and during my time off I would still learn baking.

As the years passed by everything was going amazing, I'm an adult now and I was able to start attending college, by going into the baking and business courses, till the day grandpa passed away and it affected Grace. Then came the dreaded day, when I received a phone call from the hospital; saying that granny wanted to see me.

"Granny, are you sure?"

"Of course dear, you deserve it after all. Everything that me and your grandpa has owned is now yours to keep, but there is one item that you should look for."

"There is? What is it, where can I find it?"

"You'll see once you find it but I will say that it's the very thing that made me who I am...and now I want you to have it, and pass it down to the next person."

"But where granny Grace, please tell me," I said to her in desperation as I tightly held her hand.

"I'll only say this; in my experience, I've hit rock bottom once in life. Then there's only one place left to go, and that's up. Remember that I love you so much dear, I'll be sure to say hi to your grandpa and your parents. Remember that they loved you, dear...now let this old girl rest..." She said with a soft smile and with those last words, granny Grace passed away to be with grandpa and my parents once again.

By the time I got back home, I immediately began looking all over the house for this mystery item. Starting off in the basement and working my way up to the attic; then I found an old book filled with recipes. Everything from baked goods to tea and coffee.

Since then I've kept the book very close to me and begun my second year in college. I'm going to make my family proud by sticking to the baking and starting up my own business, but yet I never expected for my life to change again. As I made my way for the next lesson I heard a loud bang nearby. When I turned my attention to the source; there was a girl with a pissed off expression as they pinned another student to the wall.

"You don't know a god damn thing about me so back off!!" And without saying anything else, that stranger stormed off to the nearest exit door, kicks it opened and left. I couldn't help but to watch everything with wide eyes, then people started to talk around me.

"Looks like Robin is at it again."

"When do you think they will grow up?"

"Does it matter anymore? She's on her last legs with everyone else here anyway."

"True, even the lecturers are getting fed up with them. And once they kick Robin out they won't have anywhere else to go." So that person's name is Robin and from the looks of it, they seem to be a troubled person as well. I kept on staring at the door they kicked then I slowly started to smile.

"Robin, I feel like we going to get along just fine."
