Part four: The angry belly

"Yeah, you relax. I know how you get. Ok, don’t tell me twice. Shit, I gotta be careful with you otherwise you gonna put me to work," Alphonse said as he pulls me for some cuddles. Being in his arms always made me safe and warm, but then something came to mind; after hearing his story it just got me thinking about his past, so I just got me wondering if he ever did have someone that he could talk to, at least just one person. So it couldn't hurt to ask, right?

"Hey Al, do you ever have a friend back when you were growing up?"

"Friends?" He responded while looking at me with a surprised yet shocked expression but then slowly turned into a frown as he looked away.

"I mean, it’s a small town, there were a few people, there were a few people. I don’t like thinking about it much. There was this guy, we knew each other I guess."

That has just answered the question I've had for a long time. He really had someone in his life before me and Robin came into the picture.

"He moved here when I was like, I don’t know, like twelve and yeah I guess we were friends for a while."

"Did he leave or something?"

"Yeah he, I don’t know, he moved and you know I was not here. I found ways to keep myself preoccupied. video games, working at the store for my folks, it was boring sometimes but I found ways to keep myself going."

There's a small part of me wishing that I haven't asked that, simply because of the sadness in his eyes; It looks like he was trying to push back a bad memory, I think it's about time for a topic change.

"Hey, Alphonse. If it's alright, can we watch Titanic?"

"Oh well, now you wanna watch Titanic huh? Yeah thinking about that car scene really got you going huh?"

"Al!"

"I’m kidding, I’m kidding, yeah sure I’ll put it on but if you fall asleep there’s no guarantees that I’m gonna finish it, I ain’t gonna lie. It’s a long-ass movie."

"At this point, I need a long-ass movie to keep me distracted. But are there really movies that are longer than the Titanic?"

"Oh you wanna talk long ass movie? I got you, I got the Lord of the rings extended edition; we watched the whole damn trilogy! We’ll will really wait out this whole, period thing," he said with a wide smile. I don't think I've seen that film yet so it would be a nice change of pace.

"Hell yeah!" I responded in Alphonse style and he seemed to like my response.

"Look, I’ll put something on and I’ll be right back okay?"

"Okay, just don't keep me waiting." We both shared a light laugh till he kissed me, it feels so light and blissful, so filled with love and care that was shortly followed by a smile.

"Love you Boo."

"I love you to Alphonse."

Then he left the room to make some food, while I sat there with my favourite blanket and teddy bear hot water bottle in my arms. Perhaps going through this won't be so bad anymore. And that's what our day has been; relaxing, watching films while eating food without any care or worry. However, neither me, Al nor Robin were ready for the storm that's slowly making its way towards us, a face from the past that was kept away.
