VII An actual Valentine's Day date? VII

Time has surely flown by us rather quickly me and Robin, we both have been here for the whole of January and we are going strong thanks to the store. However, now that it's February, the mood between the two of us have completely shifted. Why? Because of Valentine's Day. Our shop was extremely busy today because of the month of love and of course, we couldn't allow the dogs to join us downstairs. Especially Bodega since he loves his food. The whole of the shop was packed with lovers; it was a joy at first but after a while, it just became exhausting. So we both chose to close the shop for the afternoon and open back up for the dinner hour. And with that, we are here within Alphonse's candy shop; not just to annoy him but to sneak at some out of the open chocolates, without getting caught by him.

Ava's pov

"Now I know you both ain't coming into my shop thinking you're going to scoop up all the discounted Valentine's Day candy for yourself's." the sudden voice of Alphonse called out to us as we both turned our heads towards him, we have been caught red-handed.

"What, no of course not. We would never take some of the chocolates, right Robin," I ask her while trying to defend us.

"No, absolutely not." They answered back with a poker face. During their stay within the city, Robin has become a bit of a master of lying but since I spent so much of my time with them I could easily tell when they are being honest or not, but Alphonse doesn't seem to buy it.

"Uh-huh, think I didn't see you two sneak in here, you think I just leave the good goods sitting out for anybody?" He said to us with a scolding face. We both looked downwards at our feet, feeling like a child who was caught trying to get a cookie from a jar and was about to face their punishment for misbehaving. That's what the atmosphere felt like till Alphonse's sudden yet light laugh broke the mood.

"I'm playing relax, look I already took everything off the shelves, it's all boxed up chilling behind the counter," he said as he was trying to reassure us both. I was very happy that he was just joking with us but I noticed that Robin wasn't looking at him, instead, they were looking at the counter.

"Those rappers on the counter is telling a different story," she said with a smirk. I turned my attention back to Alphonse as he stood there on the spot with a surprised expression.

"I mean I've been snacking on it a bit but I could share the wealth. But maybe I should like, clean up before you come back here just-"

"Have you been eating nothing but chocolates all day?!" I said as I spoke out, catching both him and Robin by surprise. I didn't allow him to continue with his alibi while I was fussing over his health.

"Hold on wait, look all these rappers aren't from today I swear, I just need to empty the garbage can."

"Uh-huh, sure. You lack muscle as it is, do you think that eating all the chocolate is going to help you with that?" Robin said as they hold a hardened gaze at Alphonse they aren't buying his story and he took offence with their backtalk.

"I, look you don't gotta roast me! I had a really shity Valentine's Day and I'm drowning my sorrow and sugary sweetness since I don't have any of the other kind of sugary sweetness ok!"

After his outburst, Robin and I didn't dare to say anything. I honestly wouldn't know what Robin was thinking right now since they did start this off but I couldn't help but feel saddened by it. I understand that it's normal for someone not to have a valentine, but the hidden look of pain in his eyes tells a different story. He did have someone to spend it with; but where are they now?

"Just, let me clean up a bit, you can find some chocolate or candy for yourself's," Alphonse suddenly said as he continues to work. And of course, with an invention like that, Robin and I couldn't say no. So we both helped to are selves to the chocolates while watching Alphonse work till he was done, and decided to join us; I could tell that he was trying not to have any chocolate but he lost that battle obviously.

"Shit, it's best I share it before I really hurt myself. One of these days my damn metabolism is going to kick the bucket and all this junk will catch up to me, but it is not this day." He said while eating a piece of chocolate and making us both laugh.

"Do you just quote Lord of the rings?" Robin said as they chuckled slightly.

"Yeah, Lord of the rings, ever going at the black gate?"

"I've been to that gateway much more than you think."

"But really though Alphonse, I didn't know you watch Lord of the rings. Then again you never struck me as someone who watches a lot of films" I said to him.

"Yeah, I've been known to make a reference or two. So what have you two been up to? Did you both have a hot date for Valentine's Day?"

"No, not really. It's not like you can find that kind of someone in a small town like this." I responded to his question.

"That's fair. How hot of a date could you even get in a town like this? I think the best I could manage would be like a lukewarm date. I'm more of a night in type of guy myself anyway; some popcorn, Netflix and my favourite pyjamas; shit that's the definition of romantic if you ask me."

"Hey, no hate on that idea Al. Nothing wrong with spending the loving mouth at home." Robin said to him while I was about to take chocolate on another plate.

"Yo, don't touch the chocolate coconut things. You can have whatever else you want, but I'm calling dibs on those!" He said to me and I instantly pulled my hand away from them.

"So what's the deal with you not having a Valentine this year? Just not interested? Still, settling into being the newbies in town? Didn't want to give people the wrong idea?"

I feel so called out by him. I don't even know if I should tell him my reasons, it's not like my Valentine's of the past were amazing. But it's not like we are strangers anymore; I guess it wouldn't hurt to tell, sort of.

(So a new chapter. I do feel like I should explain😅 I was away within the last two days so I wasn't able to make anything at the time but now that I'm home, I can start up again. And also because of that, I will start working on the second part of this chapter😊)
