Part two: A love story, a horrible past

"That may be true on other occasions but right now I want you to be honest with me. You're scared, aren't you?" I asked him as I held his hand tightly. He didn't say anything at first for a bit but then he decided to talk and let out his locked away emotions.

"Yeah, I’m shook up. When Seth was locked up and me leaving the city behind, this place felt so far away from all that and when you showed up it didn’t just feel remote, it felt safe. It felt like all the cracks were sealed and I started to fix whatever brokenness was in me. Living in a world where me and Seth never were, it was nice and part of me hates to say that because he wasn’t always like this, he wasn’t this guy, he wasn't always so cold. He used to care about people, I think."

"How did you come to know Seth?" I asked him, I wasn't even trying to hide the curiosity in my voice. I need to know how they meet each other.

"We grew up together, we have a whole lot of history and the sad thing is the majority of it was perfectly fine. We were pals and then we were a little more than pals but when his folks split and his ma left, he was just so angry, he wouldn't admit it, he wouldn't address it. He just got so bitter," said Alphonse as he told me a bit of his life as well as Seth's but as he did I noticed the deep sadness in his eyes. Along with other emotions; hurt, pain, sorrow. And seeing him being like this just stabbed me in the heart. Nothing else was said between us that was till Al broke the silence and pulled me closer to him.

"Come on, let's walk, we’re almost home."

"Okay, sorry Al," I said to him with a frown as we started walking again. I know that I don't have a reason to apologise but in a sense, I did hurt his feelings by asking him something that he was keeping away for so long. I wasn't going to ask him any more questions, I wasn't expecting him to say anything else at all but instead, he chose to continue with the backstory of him and Seth.

"Seth was always a mommas boy and she was a wild one. I don’t know how she ended up with his dad because she’s a firecracker and he’s just kind of a mean old drunk, a drunk who saw so much of her in Seth."

"So, what happened between the two of them?" I don't really know his dad that we'll enough as a person but I did hear about him a couple of times from Robin and it's honestly strange. From the way she talked about him, he sounded like a decent kind of man but he has a broken relationship with his own son, just what the hell even happened.

"I don’t know, he wouldn’t talk about it but my family basically adopted him. He was over all the time, I think he stayed with us more than he stayed at home. It was okay for a while, I mean those days were great. That summer, I fell in love for the first time. So did Seth."

From the minute he said that I honestly don't know how to feel about it. I mean, I'm not against with same-sex love, I'm actually all for it but to hear Alphonse saying it like that, I can really tell that Al was crazy for Seth. And Seth was crazy for him too. Even his expression changed slightly, that sadness was replaced with a bit of happiness; he really loved those moments in his life, during a time when everything was perfect to him, but then I saw his expression change again, it was signalling that he was about to reveal all the bitter memories for those times.
