Ava's pov
There's nothing more depressing than your boyfriend just suddenly running off and leaving you alone in the evening night. What was supposed to be an evening of us, enjoying our time in the tavern but now it's the complete opposite. And I feel like Robin doesn't believe it either, since I'm using the time I have to speak with her.
"And then he just took off," I said to Robin over the phone as I explained everything that happened.
"Wow, and all of that because of a motorcycle?"
"Yeah. Al is never the type to get scared, especially over a motorcycle. Should I be worried Robin?"
"I'm sure he must have a reason. He was in the middle of talking about his past, right."
"I guess, I'll wait for a couple of minutes and if I don't hear anything from him I'm coming home."
"Fair enough. I'll make you something to eat when you come back."
"Thanks Robin. See you later."
"See you!"
And with that, we ended the conversation. Leaving me here alone with only the barkeep checking on me every now and then. I don't really know that many people here but Robin on the other hand comes around here for a drink, apparently, she and the owner of this place have gotten very close with each other. And I think I can understand why; the barkeep is a very chilled guy and would always greeted her with a smile. And to make this situation any worst, I feel like I'm being watched. At first, I was trying my best not to think about it, that was till I felt a presence right next to me. However, I wasn't prepared for who I saw.
"Oh! Pardon my manners, was this seat taken?"
It was him! The other guy in that odd dream I had! The one that was in the kitchen with Robin but he had some small differences; such as his white shirt, a pair of sunglasses and a brown bomber like jacket with a red tartan like pattern in the sleeves. What really took me off guard was the expression that's in his eyes, I couldn't explain it but I feel kind of terrified.
"Well, actually-"
"No? Huh, well I guess it's my lucky night then," said the stranger as he made himself comfortable on the site next to me. He didn't even let me finish my sentence!
"So what are you drinking?"
"Just water."
"Water? Well damn, maybe I'm not so lucky after all," he said with a frown. Just what did he mean by that.
"Hey, barkeep, two screwdrivers!"
"Two?"
"Oh don't worry, there for me. Unless you want one in which case that is highly presumptuous of you. Do I look like the kind of guy who would just buy a drink for any old stranger on a whim? Actually, you know what, don't answer that," he said while making eye contact with me. Even though he was hiding it, I could tell that he was shooting daggers at me.
"I've been told I've got a fragile ego and I don't want to kick off my homecoming with a broken heart."
"Homecoming? Did you live here?" I asked him with a surprised tone.
"That's right, I used to live here. It's been a long time."
Despite this stranger catching me off guard with his sudden appearance, he certainly was filled with one or two surprises. Never would I have guessed that he lived here once, he doesn't even strike me as the type of guy to live in a quiet place like this.
"Hey, old man! Drinks, please," he called out to the barkeep with an annoyed tone in his voice and his facial expression changed from calm to a stern look. Did he just call him, pops? He didn't reply to the stranger, instead, he just stares at him with no emotion on his face.
"All these years, no phone calls, no visits and you can't even get your boy a drink? come on pops don't be like that! Really, don't," said the stranger as his expression hardened and much colder. The barkeep couldn't say anything but then he let out a heavy sigh, showing that he was unable to win against his own son and had finally brought him the two drinks and walked away to the other end of the bar counter.
"There we go. I tell ya, you'd think a quaint place like this would be known for its hospitality but yikes what kind of reviews does this join get on Yelp," he said as he began to drink one of the Screwdrivers. I on the other couldn't help but stare at him in shock, how could he speak to his own father like. I couldn't even say anything, then the stranger turned his attention back to me.
"Sorry about that, don't let the grumpy geezer behind the bar fool you. That's my loving dear old dad who's just a little spineless, that's why mom left him for a real man! Hey, her and Steve are doing great by the way pops!" He raised his voice loud enough for him to hear. This is definitely starting to get out of hand, while I don't hold the power to do anything that's happening but I can change the topic.
"I'm sorry but, who are you exactly?" I asked him which seemed to catch him by surprise, all on the fact he has yet to introduce himself.
"Shit, see I've gotta work on my social graces. Here, let me try again; hello darling, I'm Seth, the proud son of this town."
