The blonde ruler was quite distraught, sitting in his study with a contemplative gaze. His closest companion, a gifted sorcerer, sat on the couch across from him, sipping on some tea. He was there for emotional support much in the same way as a pet. It was not unusual for the blonde to refer to him as such anyway. However, the issue posed was something that had the entire castle in a tizzy, so the matter was quite serious to discuss.
"She keeps frowning," the man hummed, tapping the fine wooden desk under his fingers, "and yet she will not tell me what is wrong with her."
"Your majesty, I thought I had told you. Girls her age don't enjoy being cooped up all day. Perhaps you should let her wander around outside for a bit. She hasn't seen the outside of the castle grounds since her fifth birthday, after all."
The man ignored his companion's advice. It was far too dangerous outside of the castle, the male unable to protect her with the range of his own powers. Thus, the simplest option was to not let her go outside of the walls. Still, he was not fond of the way she gazed out of the window whenever she came to visit him. She even found it difficult to speak as well, leading her father to believe at first that she was sick. However, that was not the case. At least, not in the traditional sense.
"If not for that, why not try looking for some playmates for her? She must be lonely since you separate her and her other siblings."
"Is that truly the issue here...? I had thought she enjoyed spending time with the fifth prince."
"Yes, of course, she does. But as a prince of the kingdom, he is not always free to play with her, focusing on his studies. There's also the academy he has been talking about going off to. It must have made her sad to hear he would leave her all alone."
The blonde once more grumbled. When she was younger, the only thing she ever wanted to do was spend time with her father. And while that was still true to a great degree, he had too realized that young girls needed other playmates to help them smile. He wasn't fond of letting her play with her half-siblings, only allowing her to have access to her fifth brother - the only one among the man's children that was fully related to her.
Her brother loved her dearly, as he ought to have. Even as a small toddler, he would do all he could to make her smile, rushing around on stubby legs to grab her favorite toys and present them to her. It was what made the man so jealous, but, at the very least, she did smile, so he allowed it in moderation. As the male thought of it, he began to take his companion's advice into consideration. A playmate would have indeed had the same effect on the (h/c) haired girl, allowing her to once again smile freely.
Thus, Tiberius unlocked the third drawer of his desk, looking at all the papers with great dread. His baby girl's mother had insisted she have a betrothed as the other princesses did, but he had never come to enjoy the idea. If she were to ever be married, he would only accept her being with the best and most accomplished boys her age, and even then, one wouldn't be enough. He had always believed she needed at least four or five capable males by her side. Still, with how young the (h/c) haired princess was, it was difficult to find any promising individuals around her age.
There were some who had begun to prove themselves as capable matches, those being the papers the man kept in that drawer. Always keeping an eye on them, he kept the girl's engagement in mind. So, as he thought about her relationship with her brother and the positivity it provided for her, he imagined a male playmate would have been a better option for her than a female her age. After all, she should be acquainted with those who will grow to protect her in the future, he thought. Though he would have more largely preferred if she stayed as small as she was then and never grew up.
"What do you believe makes a good playmate?" the man hummed, darting his eyes up briefly to see the contemplative expression his companion made, "For my daughter, anyway."
