Sorry for the delays everyone! It's been hectic lately. I am still working on this story but I have been going through slight writers block.
Thank you for your patience!!
Short chapter!
After Zim and myself had parted ways, I reunited with Red and Purple on board the ship. My bag filled to the brim with supplies and my head with newfound Irken knowledge, thanks to the aid of Zim. I didn't really know how to act when I saw them again, now knowing how complicated my feelings were.
We had all turned off our holographic disguises when we arrived on board the ship, Purple explaining that him and Red had a very productive conversation. In return, I avoided telling him about Zim but did mention that I met somebody very helpful to help me get supplies.
"You get anything good?" Red questioned, peaking into the bag. For a guy without a nose, he sure was nosy.
"Yeah, Anti-Irken formula" I joked, pulling the bag away from him before setting it down in an area of the ship I had claimed as my own.
I turned back toward the two, immediatley coming face to chest with Purple. My breath hitched, Zims words coming back to me slowly. My eyes lingered on Purple for a moment before they darted over to Red. I didn't know what to make of this feeling washing over me. The only thing I noticed was the butterflies in my stomach were flying faster than ever since I got back.
Were these ever butterflies? Was this me holding some kind of affection for them the whole time? Or perhaps my anxiety around the control brains and all the other crazy stuff we have faced just turned into feelings for one of them at some point. But now I couldn't pinpoint my feelings. Where were they coming from and who were they for!?
UGHHH WHY DID ZIM HAVE TO TALK!?!
I looked up at Purple, who had taken hold of my arms and slowly traced along them. He looked like he was in a trance of some kind and appeared to be moving his hands further downwards in order to take my hands. I know the Irken had feelings for me. The question was how I felt.
Purple was filled with positive and negative traits. He was very open about his feelings and could be sensitive to his own and other people's emotion, which was both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I could read him like a book and getting close to him is easy because of his openness. On the other, when he was upset he could easily blow things out of proportion and often made rash choices over minor inconveniences.
He had proven time and time again that he could be considerate and caring, even if he's not always kind. And he can be selfish, obnoxious and sometimes even cruel.
But he can be gentle and affectionate, as I recall several instances of him being there for me when I needed someone.
I could feel my face heating and I feared Purple taking notice and so I switched my attention over to Red.
He was a different story.
Red was often callous at the best of times, usually keeping his cards close to his chest and developing a hard exterior. He wasn't the brightest Irken, despite the demeanour he displays, and often preferred to shoot at his problems than face them in healthy ways.
But he was engaging to talk to. He was a great debate partner and had a curiosity for anything new that other Irkens didn't seem to have. That curiosity often ended up feeling like something intimate he was sharing, even if the conversation had nothing to do with him.
He also was the absolute worst at being kind or gentle. Again, the kind of guy who would shoot first and then realise you were trying to hug him, not attack him. But he was good at talking me down and telling things to me straight when it got messy.
I was pulled back to past moments with the two of them, where they were both attentive in their own ways.
Purple, the caring, rash, sweet and gluttonous charmer with a love for Donuts.
And Red. The Curious, Callous, fun and stubborn cat, who cared far more than he let on.
"Whats with the look?" Asked the cat, eyes squinted in confusion as he glanced at my expression.
"Can all humans change colour like that?" Purple added, placing a hand under my chin before squishing my cheeks together as he analysed my face.
Crap, how long had I been flushed for?!
"It's nothing... I'm just tired." I took Purples hands away from my face, holding them down whilst he began to chirp and nuzzled his face into my neck.
Man he is really not subtle at all.
But I couldn't say I minded. It was sweet of him to be so openly affectionate. I felt a smile form gently on my face, unable to help the warmth from rising in my chest.
I felt another presence close by too. Red had stepped beside Purple and myself, looking a little unsure of himself. Whatever he was feeling, he seemed to shake himself out of it.
"Why don't you two get some rest. I'll get the ship running and we can finally get to these 'Allies' of Courtney's, whoever that is." He grimaced, clearly not looking forward to the journey.
In fact, he looked drained. He had been flying for a long time, barely taking breaks. Of course, he was just at a cafe but that was supposedly an emotionally draining experience. Goodness knows Red can't handle emotion in big doses.
"C'mere" I held out my hand, rolling my eyes.
Red hesitated for a moment, avoiding my eyes at all cost as he looked around the room absently and his antennae twitched. Was he nervous?
Reds eyes hardened slightly, mouth pulled into a thin line. He looked tense now, though it felt like he was forcing his composure with the way his expression remained tight.
I didn't drop my hand, however, and only felt elated when Red slowly shuffled toward the two of us with his arms crossing and his eyes locked on anything but me or Purple. When my free arm made itself comfortable against his lower back and pulled him into the embrace, I could feel his tension rise suddenly. It was breif and subtle, slowly melting away as he began to settle into us, his arms no longer crossed tightly together and loosening to release at his sides.
"Maybe....for now. We should all just get some rest." I suggested, my voice lowered into something just above a whisper.
Purple seemed content with that plan, humming leisurely and chirping as he pushed himself further into the embrace. Red didn't say anything, just opting to place one of his arms over my shoulder and pulling me closer. One of his fingers managed to make it's way to Purples face as it rested against me. He stroked along the edge of Purples jawline and gently cressed it with a tenderness I had never seen from him before.
I glanced over at the red-eyed irken, catching his, dare-I-say, softened expression. Purple was half-asleep, his face moving toward my collar bone as he begun to lightly drool, completely unawares of the sudden tension building up between Red and myself. He was looking between Purple and I, shifting his expression between us, occassionally glancing at my lips and then looking away again. Like he wanted to...
Did he want to?
Did I want to?
I looked at Purple once more, noting how comfortable he was resting against my chest, occassionally allowing his antennae to tap my cheeks as he nuzzled further. A light purring sound emitting from him as he did.
Then back to Red, who was still avoiding eye contact but held me and Purple even closer regardless, a silly, awkward pout on his face. His pak glowed a tad brighter and the colouring on his face darkened to a subtle blue.
....Yeah, it's official.
I've fallen for both of them.
