"It's that boy's privilege to be liked by you." My heart beats rapidly, and I can feel the heat rising up my cheeks. Does he really think so?
I'd always thought Liam was so far out of my league, that he would never like someone like me, but maybe that's not true. Maybe I've always underestimated myself. Maybe I am enough.
But maybe he's just being friendly. Maybe he doesn't see me in that way. The negative thoughts try to consume me again, but I ignore them. Afterall, this is the furthest I've gotten with Liam. I'm going to be positive.
"Thanks," I say nervously; something about this boy makes me say everything nervously. I can't quite figure out what it is; perhaps the icy blue eyes, or his blonde hair, or his smile that lights up his entire face. Perhaps it's just his presence alone.
I see him doodling something on a piece of paper, and he hands it to me. "For when you're sad about another stupid boy."
It's a simple drawing, a hand holding flowers, his name messily signed at the bottom, but I know I'll cherish it forever. No matter where we end up, it's going to remind me of this moment; a moment where I feel enough for someone.
