Ava

Liam sits across from me on the cafeteria table, my friends by our side. As I talk to them, I realize he's getting bored, especially since he keeps kicking me under the table.

"What?" I mouth. He gives me an annoyed look, a lets-get-out-of-here look.

I shake my head. I haven't seen my friends in a few days, so of course I want to catch up with them. Of course he's not going to make that easy.

"Wanna go makeout in my car?" his message reads. I quickly put my phone under the table, hoping no one saw that.

"No," I reply. I'm not making it that easy for you, Liam.

"Oh, yeah? You don't want me to—" Rachel interrupts me before I can read the entire message.

"So, are you guys finally together? About time." Liam looks at me, a little confused. I haven't told him that he was the boy I was crying about that day, that I liked him, and now Rachel's about to do it for me.

"Rachel-" but before I can tell her to stop talking, Liam interrupts me.

"What do you mean by finally together? We only recently met."

"Oh, you didn't know?" My heart beats in nervousness, still hoping she'll stop. "Ava's had a crush on you for the longest time, but you were too busy with Ivy to notice."

I feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment, a look of horror on Liam's face. He's gonna hate me now. He's gonna think I'm another desperate girl. He's gonna regret ever talking to me.

I rush out of the cafeteria, the entire table staring at me as tears well up in my eyes. It's ruined. Rachel fucking ruined it.
