(CHARA POV) [M]

The crowd went wild as we stepped into our respective sides of the arena. We stood about 30 feet from each other.

"Tra la la, the water is very dry today. That is good luck. Begin."

"My son. I do not intend to hold back." The color drained from the area as purple magic swirled into a glowing red trident in his hands.

"Neither do I." I don't remember where it was hidden, but I willed myself to summon a magic weapon too. I focused intently on the last thing Asriel gave me. Purple lightning arced around my body and my outstretched hand. The purple lightning flashed a brilliant red and suddenly, I was holding the Dust-Forged Riel Knife. I swung it in the air a few times, to get used to the weight. The unique sound it makes when swung is something that I'll never forget.

He charged at me, thrusting his trident. I was able to narrowly deflect it with my knife, but he summoned a bunch of fireballs to enclose around me. I jumped through a few rings of fire before a barrage of tightly packed, small, fast moving fireballs came at me from all directions. They stung and burned on impact, singing the cloak of my newly tailored armor. As soon as there was an opening, I jumped out of the way.

"My turn." I swung my knife 7 or 8 times in the air, then pointed it at him. In the air, the paths that I had cut through started to glow and crackle with magical energy. The phantom slash marks all flew at him one at a time. While that was going, I summoned a few of my red bullets, and scattered them on the battlefield. I rushed at him, not allowing even a moment of rest. I forced him back with my constant attacking, but it wasn't enough.

I took a few deep breaths amidst the chaos. In. Out. I focused on what sans taught me. Blue stop signs. Blue waves of magic shot from my blade as I swung. Dad managed to avoid the first two, but he stepped on one of my red bullets, causing the third to connect. He took a deep breath, which seemed to be his only recovery. He barely looks phased, I thought to myself, like I haven't done anything to him but matte his fur.

More fire surrounded me, trapping me in a 5-foot circle. His trident, now blue, stuck through the wall of flames. He pulled it back out, allowing me a brief moment to reposition. Small fireballs passed from one end of the circle to the other. Every few moments, the trident would pass through again, so I had to move carefully. This one was one of the easier attacks to—

Chara! Look out, above you! Frisk's voice whispered from nowhere in particular. I ducked just in time to see Dad's trident swing through the whole circle, now orange. That was a close one. But... Where did Frisk's voice come from? How had she known what was going to happen? I'll ask her if I... when I win. There was no if about this.

Filled with Determination, I ran at him. I had enough distance between us for a complete thought. I need some way to completely hinder his ability to fight. I looked around for something, anything I could use to my advantage. Well, I couldn't just hit him, but I could... I ran straight towards him. I guess he was expecting me to use a magic attack or something, because he was blocking with his trident. I weaved around it, slid under his legs, and grabbed his cloak. I threw it over his head, causing him to have to untangle it from his horns. Then, I shot more red bullets in multiple directions. The zipped and whizzed around the arena, out of range.

All was going according to plan. Although I had barely done any damage to him, and I used up my entire turn, I was exhausted from just keeping my magic around for this long. He took this as his opportunity to strike. I narrowly dodged attacks from his trident, but at the end, he got several good hits in. I felt warm liquid pool in the back of my mouth which tasted like copper. He said he wouldn't go easy on me, but he only used the blunt part of his trident. You big fuzzy pushover, I thought, spitting out the blood in my mouth. Needless to say, the monsters of the Underground were surprised to see the fact that I had blood in the first place.
