(CHARA POV)
Alphys started to preform a normal check-up on me. Eyes, ears, heartbeat, blood pressure, etc. I was still getting used to saying words.
"A-Al? How long is thuh-thih-this going too-t-to take?"
"W-Well, Ive done all of the physical tests, vitals, height, weight, and so on."
"...Anything e-else?"
"Ah, yes. W-well, about your SOUL..." I presented my SOUL.
"Why is it l-like that?"
"The short answer is, we don't kn-know. But sans and I-I are working to figure out w-what your soul actually I-is." Sans stood off to the side, wearing a lab coat over his parka.
"sup"
"In the mean-time, you should come in a few times a week for physical therapy."
"and if anything. and i mean anything weird happens. you should come here as soon as possible."
"Noted."
"O-Otherwise, you're free to go." Frisk looked up at Alphys.
"Really? That's it?"
"Yeah! Chara is discharged from my medical care."
"C-Cool. Can I h-have my clothes back now?"
"in a shoebox in the bathroom."
"Also, sans? Would it be okay if Chara and I stayed at your place for the time being? We don't exactly have anywhere else to stay."
"no problem, kid."As Frisk and I walked out of the lab, she asked something peculiar.
"Do...Do you remember anything from the last timeline?" I knew she was talking about the Genocide.
"I..." I thought carefully about my words. "I don't remember much, but I've had these... these visions."
"...A lot of people have had visions, too. Not weaker monsters, just boss monsters."
"... Not like I've had them though. And, you probably already know what I'm talking about. About what happened a-after you reached LV 20."
"..."
"Listen." I grabbed Frisk's shoulders and spun her towards me. "I would never do something like that. That... that thing isn't me."
". . ."
"Frisk. Look at me. I need you t-to understand that."
"B-but now you even look the same as you did back then."
"Oh, Frisk, mi corazon.." I held her head to my chest as I hugged her tightly. My new body is much shorter than when I was a ghost. "I would never hurt you. Nunca en mi vida, Frisk."
"Y-you really mean it? Even if I lose control again?"
"Nunca en tu vida." She chuckled softly.
"I don't even know what that means."
"No, but you still think it's sweet." She tried to hide her smile in my jacket.
"No I don't."
"Aww that's adorable."
"No it's not. Stop!"
"I'm not even doing anything."
"Well stop anyway."
"Stop doing nothing?"
"Yes."
"Well how about we get out of Hotland? If I stay here any longer I'm going to turn to dust."
"Don't say that!"
. . .
We arrived at sans and Papyrus's house around noon, and there was a familiar face in the main square. Undyne. Captain of the Royal Guard. Frisk didn't seem to mind though.
"Explain to me why you two aren't trying to kill each other."
"Well, trying to kill the prince and his lady is treason against the throne."
"So... Frisk told you?"
"Yeah, plus, Frisk is incredibly good at not dying."
"I'm a fast healer!"
"Well, we haven't had a formal introduction since I was a toddler, so... Howdy! I'm Chara, nice to meet you."
"Captain Undyne, Head of the Royal Guard, " She grasped my hand firmly. "Nice to finally meet you Prince, ya know, in the flesh."
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, gills."
"Ooh, that's an old nickname." Frisk interjected.
"I'm going to go introduce him to Papyrus."
"Alright. See ya later, punks!" Frisk turned to me.
"What was that back there? Gills?"
"We actually had met when I was little, me and Azzy were in a tour of the Royal Guard barracks. When we were first meeting Undyne, she was talking to another high-ranking Guardsman who called her Gills."
"That's cool... But you seemed way too at ease with Undyne's presence."
"Well... I am the Prince, so attacking me and mine would be treason, wouldn't it?"
"I guess so..."
"Cmon, lets go introduce me to papyrus."
"Right..."(FRISK POV)
What he's saying makes sense. But something just feels... off. I knocked on the door to sans and Papyrus's house. Within seconds the door opened.
"HUMAN! IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE YOU! AS IM AWARE YOU HAVE A NEW FRIEND!"
"Hi Papyrus! This is my boyfriend, Chara."
"You may recognize me as that ghost. From the battle."
"AH. I SEE." Papyrus squinted. "THOUGH YOU DONT SEEM VERY GHOST-Y TO ME."
"Uh... Magic?"
"THAT MAKES SENSE TO ME! GOOD TO MEET YOU GREEN HUMAN!"
"About that.... I'm actually a monster now. Made like a Type II skeleton... whatever that means."
"OH! ANOTHER SKELETON! WHAT FONT DO YOU USE?"
"Font?" I leaned over to Chara.
"Basically skeleton accents. You speak in Kara Kaboodle."
"How would you know?"
"I'll explain later. But, there's another reason we are here."
"RIGHT-O! SANS TOLD ME THAT YOU WOULD BE STAYING WITH US UNTIL A CERTAIN MEDICAL... THING... WAS RESOLVED! AND I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAVE ALREADY SET UP A ROOM! ALTHOUGH... I DIDNT EXPECT TO BE HOUSING ANOTHER GUEST. IT WILL TAKE AWHILE TO SET UP ANOTHER ROOM..."
"That... won't be necessary, pap. It's fine."
"WELL, MAKE YOURSELVES AT HOME!"
"Hey Papyrus? Thank you." He smiled and walked back into his room. The third door in between sans and Papyrus's room, a room we've stayed in previously, was the spare room that Papyrus has set up for us to live in temporarily. While Chara is recovering for the next few weeks. There was a simple bed, a movable chalkboard near the left-hand wall, a desk with unrecognizable blueprints directly opposite the door, and a few filling cabinets. Just like I remember. Although something seems different this time.
Was that door always grey? The only other grey door like that I've seen is the one in the hallway. Dr. Gaster did say that sans and Papyrus were his brothers. No he didn't. Didn't he? I could've sworn he had told me... but I dont remember him saying anything about that. I stumbled into Chara.
"Whoa, there. You okay?"
"Yeah I just got dizzy all of a sudden. I'm fine."
"Shouldn't I be the one stumbling and losing balance? I'm the one with the new body after all." The new body. That's not something that Chara would usually say. He would be more worried about me. Not that I want him to be, but it's just how he is... Or, was.
"I'm hungry. Let's go to the cafe."
"There's a cafe in Snowdin?"
"Yes... Chara. You know that, we've been to it before. That's where I exchanged my money for all this G."
"Doesn't ring a bell."
"...Whatever. Let's just go."
"Sounds good to me."~You can play the song at the top now~
We walked down the street to the cafe. Chara ordered a cinnamon bunny. But I ordered something different. She came back with Chara's snack and a cinnamon-butterscotch pie. I wanted to do something romantic to celebrate Chara's return.
"Chara! Look at this!"
"A pie?"
"Yup! A Cinnamon-Butterscotch pie. Do you remember when we first met?"
"Yeah. What about it?"
"That night. We shared a pie just like this one. In Toriel's house."
"Yeah, and?"
"A- I- You—... You know what?"
"What?" I stood up and paid the check. Without even eating any. I'll save the rest of the pie for later.
"I want to go check out this place with you. I found it during our time... apart."
"Sure babe! Lead the way." This isn't my Chara.
After about 10 minutes of walking, we came upon the only grassy hill in all of Snowdin forest. It overlooked the cliff that Snowdin town was on.
"Chara. I think we need to talk."
"About what?"
"Something's different. Different about you."
"Like what?"
"It's like you're a whole new person! I finally get to see you after Asgore knows how long, and you actually have a body now! You've just been nonchalant about everything! You're a person now, and... and... and it's like you just don't care! You say things as if today doesn't matter! Like everything is just peachy! But it's not!... It's not, Chara. You haven't acted like yourself since Hotland, and even then... Undyne... Undyne tried to kill us, tried to kill me. And you just... and when I lost balance you just joked it off.. And the pie! I don't don't know what that pie means to you, but us eating pie that night meant everything to me. And you just brushedi it off like it was nothing. It's like you don't care about the little things anymore. Not like you used to..." I wiped tears from my face. "And I know, it's selfish of me to want you to worry about me but... it's... it's like you don't care about anything anymore. Chara... Chara I miss you. I miss you so damn much.." He sat in solemn silence. "And I can't stop missing you Chara. I can't stop missing my Chara."
Chara avoided eye contact with me. The nerve of him. "Chara, I've been thinking. Mabye... Mabye we weren't meant to be together. Mabye it was just our DETERMINATION. Our DETERMINATION drawing us together. We jumped into this too fast and... and..." it was getting harder to speak through my tears. "AND YOU DONT EVEN CARE!! Say something! Say anything, dammit!" Nothing. "You insolent jerk! If you don't care... If you don't care like I do, then don't expect me to care either. We're done."
"What?"
"WE'RE DONE! THROUGH. O-VER... I wish you would've stayed dead." And I stormed off.Snail Fact #37
