Tra la la, some say that DETERMINATION is thicker than blood.

(METTATON POV)

I held the disc case firmly in my hands. She's going to love this one. Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 3. Heaven knows why she likes this anime series in particular, but I want her to have it. I like to see Alphys smile. She's been having quite the hard time with her recent project. All the stress is getting to her.

Quietly now, I want this to be a surprise. I opened the door to the lab, slowly made my way up to the steps, and rode the escalator up. Alphys was upset about something.

"No, no, no! I just wanted to help them! I took them away from their families! And... *sob* And I-I messed up! I didn't want to make garbage! I didn't want to fail! BUT THATS ALL I MAKE! Right? Right?!" I was beyond furious. How could she say that? I got to the 2nd floor.
"IS THAT ALL I AM TO YOU!? A SCIENCE PROJECT!? SOME PIECE OF GARBAGE? Alphys! I trusted you!! I let you do this to me and this is all you have to say?" I threw the DVD.
"M-Mettaton? I wasn't talking... about you!"
"Then who?!"
"I... I can't say..." I grabbed her shoulders.
"No secrets between us. Remember?" She nodded. "Okay, so who?"
"I... *hic* Oh, you're r-right... I shouldn't keep secrets..."
"What. Secrets."
"Y-You're not the only one in the l-lab... T-There's others... I... I... Im sorry. I'm so, so sorry..."
"Stop. Alphys, darling, crying makes your eyes puffy. She pulled up a holo-board displaying tons of information. SOUL counts, multiple sets of vitals. DT signatures. Flower growth patterns? "Alphys, what is this?"
"You wanted to know w-who..."
"Who?... Here?!"
"Downstairs, on floor G-1... I'll... I'll show you."

"...This place... Gh! What is that?"
"That's who I was talking about." The blob of white goo took form as an 8 legged dog creature, and started to rush towards us. It's face was an empty hole. I flinched. "Th-They're not bad... I just... messed up," she was scratching its chin. "There's more..."
"What?! Alphys. W-What are they? What is this place?" She avoided eye contact.
"This was here b-before I was royal scientist..."
"If this was..." another one of the things came up behind me. It had a familiar look to it... Dear God.

 Dear God

"No. All this time.. We didn't... Know."
     "Mettaton?"
"You had her? You did this?"
"I was... experimenting with DETERMINATION. After King Asgore saw what I did with your soul... he gave me more... subjects."
      "subjects?" I turned to her.
"I-I was trying to help them! They had already fallen down.. I-It was stage II! They were already... going to..."
"You did this to them... for him?"
      "...y-yes..."
      "Does Shyren know?"
"I couldn't say no to the King, I—"
      "Shyren."
      "I didn't... no. She doesn't."
      "WHAT!?"
      "I... No one else knows."
      "But their families!?"
"The letters... I can't read them anymore... I'm so afraid." I turned her head to face me.
"Alphys! They must be worried sick! You have to tell them."
      "I can't!"
      "TELL THEM!"
"NO!! Why don't you learn to deal with your own family before telling me how to deal with theirs!?"
     "... I..." I froze up.
"Oh no." She ran and hugged me. "I'm so sorry. Please... I'm sorry, Mettaton." I couldn't help but hug her back.
     "You're right,"

"We both have things to hide."

Such is fate, tra la.
